Tips To Keep Teens Safe During Prom and Graduation Season

Springtime means prom, graduation season and a surplus of milestone moments for teens.  The last thing a parent wants to worry about is the ride-hailing app service and driver that will take their children to and from these landmark events.

In response to overwhelming safety concerns. The National Limousine Association has launched an initiative called Ride Responsibly™ (www.rideresponsibly.org).  This program seeks to empower passengers by setting universal standards for safety in the prearranged car service and transportation network company (TNC) industry, which include ride-hailing mobile app-based car services, such as Lyft, Sidecar, Uber and Whisk.

Please check out these Ride Responsibly™ tips to help ensure that prom and graduation is a magical memory that ends in happy memories, not tragedy or fighting overcharges.

· Provide Proof of Commercial Insurance: The company you hire should provide proof of the vehicle’s insurance coverage.  Find out if the business insures their vehicles under a commercial or personal auto policy.  Personal auto policies usually do not include coverage for the consumers hiring the vehicles.

· Check the Driver’s Credentials: Find out if the driver must go through training, an official criminal background check and a pre-hired drug testing.  Be sure to ask if the business belongs to a professional organization, such as the National Limousine Association.

· Provide Quoted Trip Fare:  Check for a quoted fare for your trip and a final charge that matches that agreed-upon amount (except in cases of changes in trip itinerary and duration).

· Ready Access to the Transportation Provider: Make sure to have ready access via email, telephone or in-person, of the ground transportation service to voice any concerns or complaints that arise before, during or after the ride.

Please visit the Ride Responsibly homepage to review the full list of tips located in the Passenger’s Bill of Rights and Driver’s Duty of Care Section on best safety practices.
