Jess's 23rd Bday Bash & Fan Appreciation♥
Organic Body Care Recipes Review (Book Review)
I was fortunate enough to receive the Organic Body Care Recipes Book from Storey Publishing.
The skin care and function of the skin is explained exceptionally well in this book. When you know why something is important, you are more than likely to want to do it. If instructions are muddled and hard to comprehend- there won’t be very much success. This book is clear and precise about EVERYTHING it explains.
The recipes seem very easy to make, although there are ingredients listed that you aren’t just going to find laying around your house. you will have to look them up and buy most of them from health and beauty stores or online. This is a great book though if you are WILLING to go that extra step to stay healthy, or are looking to start your own beauty business.
The book first starts with ingredients and WHY they are important. This helps you get a feel for what you should be using and what you need to purchase. It explains in deep detail about the effects of this on your skin, how it can help, and what they are best used in. For example- Oatmeal (ground into flourlike substance) is best used for face and body scrubs, powdered cleansers, masks, and bath bags.
There are a lot of essential oils involved, but this book clearly states why. When you know why something is needed, you are more than likely to KNOW the benefits and how to use it in other recipes in the future.
One of my many New Year Resolutions this year was to go organic. Be more green in every aspect in life. After researching all the negative impacts on commercial projects on my health, was the reason I wanted a change. Most of the chemicals in commercial can HURT you, possibly leading to cancer, infertility, and hormonal problems down the road. The skin absorbs the chemicals in shampoo, lotion, bath products, and everything else that comes in contact with it.
You’ll have to work your way up to making ALL of these. you will just want to start with one or two first. Then when you get comfortable with those, you can progress further into more advanced and making different types. you don’t want to jump in making tons of different ones right off the bat, or you could become confused.
This is a great book and I tend to keep it on my bookshelf for life. I want to continue my handmade business into also offering natural beauty products. I will have to wait until I move into a bigger house because there is NO way I have room for another hobby at this point, but it something I would love to do.
There are tons of companies becoming earth friendly, and offering organic products- but if you could make them in your own home and KNOW exactly how the process is done, and what ingredients are involved- wouldn’t you? I would like to invest in an inexpensive blender just for making these.♥
I know I do. This is a book to flip through over and over, and use many times. It’s like an encyclopedia for healthy and beauty products. I have never in my life seen so many different choices in recipes. The ingredients are clear and state exactly how it is good for your skin or hair..
So, if you’re thinking this is something you would like to try out..

Complete Idiots Guide to Sewing {Book Review}
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Sewing
Written by: Missy Shepler and Rebecca Kemp Brent
Pages: 304
ISBN: 9781615640799
Unleash your inner seamstress with..
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Sewing $20
eBook - Adobe reader: $9.99
There’s so much to love about sewing, from the excitement of creating your own fashions to the savings from DIY home décor But there’s also lots to learn. After all, you don’t want your projects to look DIY. And that’s where new seamstresses get tangled up.
Packed with tons of stitch-by-stich instructions, clear illustrations, tips and techniques, and fantastic projects, this helpful guide gives you a sure path from start to success. In it you get:
- A primer on hand and machine sewing, including basic stitches you’ll use again and again.
- Tips for sewing seams, from standard to flat-felled, French to curved, with easy instructions for creative seam edge finishes.
- Pointers on using darts, pleats, tucks, gathering, and ruffles to add texture and pizzaz.
- The fundamentals of fabrics, along with information on finishing with trims and fasteners.
- Guidance on all things garments, including demystifying patterns, taking accurate body measurements, and customizing ready-to-wear items.
- Seventeen easy-to-make projects to perfect your skills, including Easy-Peasy Apron, A Hobo Bag, Fun Flannel Pants, a Pop-Up Storage Cube, a Double Bind Pillow, and more!
I’m not a beginner, but I am not so advanced either. I know SOME stuff about sewing, but I wouldn’t say that I was very comfortable in making all designs either. There a few things that I need to work on, such as hand sewing and pattern making.
This book is great for beginners or for someone who needs to touch up on some different aspects of sewing. This book has a ton information to set you on the road to sewing. It starts at the very beginning- letting you know the essential tools that are needed.
The tools are the hardest part when starting to sew. You need to remember to check the materials and tools needed before starting a project, just to make sure you have everything you need. I don’t know how many times I started something and couldn’t finish it because I jumped right in without looking at the tools or materials and didn’t have something.
This book breaks down the different aspects of sewing and puts them into understandable categories. Sewing is a skill, and all skills must be learned from the beginning and then practiced before becoming great. This isn’t something that you can jump in and learn in a day, it takes time and patience, and a really good book..
This books teaches which fabric is best for certain projects, needle types for certain fabrics, and how to tell the difference in needle sizing. This is AWESOME because when I was a beginner, I didn’t know. I ended up using a too big or too small needle for something, and it either left holes in it- or wouldn’t even penetrate the fabric at all.
This book contains hundreds of black-and-white photographs and line drawings. Even though the pictures aren’t in color, it is still very easy to see what they mean.
I really like this book. I will post updates on projects as I do them, there are certain projects in each chapter that will SHOW you how to do what they mean. This makes it easier to understand then just throwing you in the middle of projects that you might not otherwise have no idea what or why you’re doing it.

Kiboomu Kid’s Downloadable Music Review
had the chance through Shara at Mommy Perks to review Kiboomu.com and 20 songs of my choice. I have been wanting to homeschool Aidan and Adisyn. Adisyn is only 3, but Aidan is supposed to start Kindergarten this fall. He knows his shapes and colors, but has trouble with the alphabet.
That’s where Kiboomu comes in. This is an amazing website. This could totally help me in my homeschooling adventure. It has songs to teach everything Aidan AND Adisyn needs to know!
I love it because even I was grooving along. This isn’t something that your going to buy, and then want to smack yourself in the head for buying. I didn’t get tired of the songs, because they are enjoyable for parents also.
Music is shown to help improve education and the amount of information that a brain can hold. Why do you think that most schools support music? They know it’s great for kids, and the kids enjoy it also.
The website is amazing. You not only get music, they have free arts and crafts as well as kid friendly recipes. They have printable coloring sheets, which make it easy to teach with. It doesn’t use a lot of ink because they do not endorse the page. So all you will be using is black ink.
While there, you should check out their holiday pages. Right now they have up St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. You will find holiday related songs, recipes, and crafts. Makes holidays special and meaningful for kids.☼
Taking a road trip soon? Kiboomu might just be the perfect thing for you. I plan on going to estate and garage sales this year, and needed something to keep my kids occupied on the drive between each place. When my kids get bored, they argue and whine A LOT. If I can avoid arguments, I will.
You can get a music subscription from their website for $2 a month. $10 for 50 song downloads or $24 for an unlimited amount of downloads for a year. They have the options of getting a song in English, Spanish, and even French. They have songs for teaching alphabets, counting.
I got to choose 20 songs from the collections. They sent it to me through a burnt cd. I can put this in my laptop, DVD player, PS3, Video Player in my car..etc. Most people have iphones, ipods, or ipads or at least some kind of phone that allows APP downloads these days. I don’t, although I wish I did. If I did, I could have just downloaded the Kiboomu APPs. They have 5 apps for the iphone/ipod
and 3 for the ipad.
My kids sing a long, dance, hop up and down, and get excited. We use this as exercise/play time when it’s cold and raining. Aidan, Adisyn, and I have tons of fun acting silly and trying to sing a long.
This music is fun, upbeat, and catchy. It can be a chance for you to get down with the kids while making some lasting memories for them. This was amazing for us. I am seriously thinking about getting the unlimited plan, because if I homeschool I will definitely need it in the long run.
Here is a sample of what you can find on their youtube channel.♥

You are Brilliant♥ Gratulari Review
You are Brilliant Compliment charm necklace
Yes! You are brilliant — and you’ll exude your confident, positive self (or she will) wearing this eye-catching, earthy inspired floral design.
One side of this necklace features the compliment message, “You are Brilliant”, while the other side features a unique artistic design. Of course I had to go with the brilliant one, because it’s GREEN and I need some inspiration to find my intelligence everyday.
I have days where I do nothing but work on writing stuff, and then there are days where I feel blah. you know the feeling. The feeling where you just don’t feel your brain is on your side. The thought that I couldn’t possibly write one more word because obviously I’ve used it all up. But with this necklace, I can look down and KNOW I can do it.
It’s a huge step for me. One that I needed to take. This necklace fits like a dog tag. It has a 24” ball chain necklace, and it fits easily over the head. (You have the option of getting a black satin cord necklace instead though) It has the simple chain with the charm on it. They have plenty to choose from, so if you don’t want brilliant, you can have anything you like. (or want as a gift for someone else)
The necklace comes in a cream-colored sheer organza gift bag, that way- if it is a gift- you don’t have to worry about wrapping it, or finding a necklace box. Just give it. Simple as that. Let someone know how much they mean to you with this simple little gesture.
The reason I love this necklace so much is because you can wear the message on the outside for all the world to see, or you can flip it and just wear the design. That way if it’s your secret little uplifting message, you can keep it that way. Just show the world which side you choose to.
Right now you can buy these for $13.95, or buy 2 for $25.
Here are some other one’s that are sure to send out some powerful much needed messages.
