Be Fabulous with Scarves.net

I would like to introduce you to Scarves Dot Net (formally Affordable Scarves).
Olivia Linen Scarf
Disclosure: Items were sent for review purposes only; All opinions are honest.

Who said scarves are just for winter? They were SO wrong. The scarf that I reviewed would be absolutely perfect for spring and even summer. I wanted something light and fashionable. You should check out their entire line of summer scarves- beautiful, all of them.♥

I reviewed the Olivia Linen Scarf in Pink. The best thing about this website is you can choose from so many different colors for each scarf. So if you like a certain scarf, but you don’t like the color, want to find something that matches a certain jacket or shirt- you CAN.
008007
The breezy linen-cotton blend is available in a soft lilac, bold yellow, pretty pink, creamy ivory, or sea-worthy blue. Pair with crisp white pants and sassy sandals for a date-worthy look. I paired this with my new shirt designed by myself, a pair of jeans, and some rockin boots. It goes with ANYTHING.

You wash these scarfs in mild detergent in lukewarm or cold water (hand washed). You can also machine wash them but you have to put it on the mild/delicate wash cycle. You can line dry it (but take it off the line before it become brittle) or machine dry on tumble.

I really truly adore this scarf. It is such a lightweight scarf, making it perfect for spring (That’s right around the corner.. I’m SO excited). It is such a beautiful color, that will perk up any wardrobe. I have never really been a scarf person until now. I associated scarves with winter and bundling up. I’ve never seen so many different fashionable ones that I would love to own.

I will definitely be purchasing more. I am now glad that I turned to scarves.net. This is just a reminder to not knock something until you try it. I love it, and can even see myself wearing this in the summer. SO fashionable.. They even have a place on their website that shows video’s of different ways to tie a scarf. I really like this Rosette Neck Wrap. I have seen people wearing them, but didn’t have the slightest clue how to look so elegant. Problem solved.

Check out their other tutorials.♥
I really love this website because it gives you so many shopping options. You can’t go wrong when you can shop by season, shape, trend, color, length, and material. They even have accessories and men scarves.

Some other Scarves I really like♥

Organic Body Care Recipes Review (Book Review)

I was fortunate enough to receive the Organic Body Care Recipes Book from Storey Publishing.

The skin care and function of the skin is explained exceptionally well in this book. When you know why something is important, you are more than likely to want to do it. If instructions are muddled and hard to comprehend- there won’t be very much success. This book is clear and precise about EVERYTHING it explains.

The recipes seem very easy to make, although there are ingredients listed that you aren’t just going to find laying around your house. you will have to look them up and buy most of them from health and beauty stores or online. This is a great book though if you are WILLING to go that extra step to stay healthy, or are looking to start your own beauty business.

The book first starts with ingredients and WHY they are important. This helps you get a feel for what you should be using and what you need to purchase. It explains in deep detail about the effects of this on your skin, how it can help, and what they are best used in. For example- Oatmeal (ground into flourlike substance) is best used for face and body scrubs, powdered cleansers, masks, and bath bags.

There are a lot of essential oils involved, but this book clearly states why. When you know why something is needed, you are more than likely to KNOW the benefits and how to use it in other recipes in the future.

One of my many New Year Resolutions this year was to go organic. Be more green in every aspect in life. After researching all the negative impacts on commercial projects on my health, was the reason I wanted a change. Most of the chemicals in commercial can HURT you, possibly leading to cancer, infertility, and hormonal problems down the road. The skin absorbs the chemicals in shampoo, lotion, bath products, and everything else that comes in contact with it.

You’ll have to work your way up to making ALL of these. you will just want to start with one or two first. Then when you get comfortable with those, you can progress further into more advanced and making different types. you don’t want to jump in making tons of different ones right off the bat, or you could become confused.

This is a great book and I tend to keep it on my bookshelf for life. I want to continue my handmade business into also offering natural beauty products. I will have to wait until I move into a bigger house because there is NO way I have room for another hobby at this point, but it something I would love to do.

There are tons of companies becoming earth friendly, and offering organic products- but if you could make them in your own home and KNOW exactly how the process is done, and what ingredients are involved- wouldn’t you? I would like to invest in an inexpensive blender just for making these.♥

I know I do. This is a book to flip through over and over, and use many times. It’s like an encyclopedia for healthy and beauty products. I have never in my life seen so many different choices in recipes. The ingredients are clear and state exactly how it is good for your skin or hair..

So, if you’re thinking this is something you would like to try out..

You can buy this book @ Amazon

Complete Idiots Guide to Sewing {Book Review}

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Sewing
Written by: Missy Shepler and Rebecca Kemp Brent
Pages: 304
ISBN: 9781615640799
Unleash your inner seamstress with..
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Sewing $20
eBook - Adobe reader: $9.99
There’s so much to love about sewing, from the excitement of creating your own fashions to the savings from DIY home décor But there’s also lots to learn. After all, you don’t want your projects to look DIY. And that’s where new seamstresses get tangled up.
Packed with tons of stitch-by-stich instructions, clear illustrations, tips and techniques, and fantastic projects, this helpful guide gives you a sure path from start to success. In it you get:
  • A primer on hand and machine sewing, including basic stitches you’ll use again and again.
  • Tips for sewing seams, from standard to flat-felled, French to curved, with easy instructions for creative seam edge finishes.
  • Pointers on using darts, pleats, tucks, gathering, and ruffles to add texture and pizzaz.
  • The fundamentals of fabrics, along with information on finishing with trims and fasteners.
  • Guidance on all things garments, including demystifying patterns, taking accurate body measurements, and customizing ready-to-wear items.
  • Seventeen easy-to-make projects to perfect your skills, including Easy-Peasy Apron, A Hobo Bag, Fun Flannel Pants, a Pop-Up Storage Cube, a Double Bind Pillow, and more!
My Thoughts*
I’m not a beginner, but I am not so advanced either. I know SOME stuff about sewing, but I wouldn’t say that I was very comfortable in making all designs either. There a few things that I need to work on, such as hand sewing and pattern making.
This book is great for beginners or for someone who needs to touch up on some different aspects of sewing. This book has a ton information to set you on the road to sewing. It starts at the very beginning- letting you know the essential tools that are needed.
The tools are the hardest part when starting to sew. You need to remember to check the materials and tools needed before starting a project, just to make sure you have everything you need. I don’t know how many times I started something and couldn’t finish it because I jumped right in without looking at the tools or materials and didn’t have something.
This book breaks down the different aspects of sewing and puts them into understandable categories. Sewing is a skill, and all skills must be learned from the beginning and then practiced before becoming great. This isn’t something that you can jump in and learn in a day, it takes time and patience, and a really good book..
This books teaches which fabric is best for certain projects, needle types for certain fabrics, and how to tell the difference in needle sizing. This is AWESOME because when I was a beginner, I didn’t know. I ended up using a too big or too small needle for something, and it either left holes in it- or wouldn’t even penetrate the fabric at all.
This book contains hundreds of black-and-white photographs and line drawings. Even though the pictures aren’t in color, it is still very easy to see what they mean.
I really like this book. I will post updates on projects as I do them, there are certain projects in each chapter that will SHOW you how to do what they mean. This makes it easier to understand then just throwing you in the middle of projects that you might not otherwise have no idea what or why you’re doing it.
You can buy the book @ Amazon.

Kiboomu Kid’s Downloadable Music Review

Kiboomu

had the chance through Shara at Mommy Perks to review Kiboomu.com and 20 songs of my choice. I have been wanting to homeschool Aidan and Adisyn. Adisyn is only 3, but Aidan is supposed to start Kindergarten this fall. He knows his shapes and colors, but has trouble with the alphabet.

That’s where Kiboomu comes in. This is an amazing website. This could totally help me in my homeschooling adventure. It has songs to teach everything Aidan AND Adisyn needs to know!

I love it because even I was grooving along. This isn’t something that your going to buy, and then want to smack yourself in the head for buying. I didn’t get tired of the songs, because they are enjoyable for parents also.

Music is shown to help improve education and the amount of information that a brain can hold. Why do you think that most schools support music? They know it’s great for kids, and the kids enjoy it also.

The website is amazing. You not only get music, they have free arts and crafts as well as kid friendly recipes. They have printable coloring sheets, which make it easy to teach with. It doesn’t use a lot of ink because they do not endorse the page. So all you will be using is black ink.

While there, you should check out their holiday pages. Right now they have up St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. You will find holiday related songs, recipes, and crafts. Makes holidays special and meaningful for kids.☼

Taking a road trip soon? Kiboomu might just be the perfect thing for you. I plan on going to estate and garage sales this year, and needed something to keep my kids occupied on the drive between each place. When my kids get bored, they argue and whine A LOT. If I can avoid arguments, I will.

You can get a music subscription from their website for $2 a month. $10 for 50 song downloads or $24 for an unlimited amount of downloads for a year. They have the options of getting a song in English, Spanish, and even French. They have songs for teaching alphabets, counting.

I got to choose 20 songs from the collections. They sent it to me through a burnt cd. I can put this in my laptop, DVD player, PS3, Video Player in my car..etc. Most people have iphones, ipods, or ipads or at least some kind of phone that allows APP downloads these days. I don’t, although I wish I did. If I did, I could have just downloaded the Kiboomu APPs. They have 5 apps for the iphone/ipod

and 3 for the ipad.

My kids sing a long, dance, hop up and down, and get excited. We use this as exercise/play time when it’s cold and raining. Aidan, Adisyn, and I have tons of fun acting silly and trying to sing a long.

This music is fun, upbeat, and catchy. It can be  a chance for you to get down with the kids while making some lasting memories for them. This was amazing for us. I am seriously thinking about getting the unlimited plan, because if I homeschool I will definitely need it in the long run.

Here is a sample of what you can find on their youtube channel.♥

You are Brilliant♥ Gratulari Review

You are Brilliant green Compliment Charm Necklace

You are Brilliant Compliment charm necklace

Yes! You are brilliant — and you’ll exude your confident, positive self (or she will) wearing this eye-catching, earthy inspired floral design.

One side of this necklace features the compliment message, “You are Brilliant”, while the other side features a unique artistic design. Of course I had to go with the brilliant one, because it’s GREEN and I need some inspiration to find my intelligence everyday.

I have days where I do nothing but work on writing stuff, and then there are days where I feel blah. you know the feeling. The feeling where you just don’t feel your brain is on your side. The thought that I couldn’t possibly write one more word because obviously I’ve used it all up. But with this necklace, I can look down and KNOW I can do it.

It’s a huge step for me. One that I needed to take. This necklace fits like a dog tag.  It has a 24” ball chain necklace, and it fits easily over the head. (You have the option of getting a black satin cord necklace instead though) It has the simple chain with the charm on it. They have plenty to choose from, so if you don’t want brilliant, you can have anything you like. (or want as a gift for someone else)

The necklace comes in a cream-colored sheer organza gift bag, that way- if it is a gift- you don’t have to worry about wrapping it, or finding a necklace box. Just give it. Simple as that. Let someone know how much they mean to you with this simple little gesture.

The reason I love this necklace so much is because you can wear the message on the outside for all the world to see, or you can flip it and just wear the design. That way if it’s your secret little uplifting message, you can keep it that way. Just show the world which side you choose to.

Right now you can buy these for $13.95, or buy 2 for $25.

Here are some other one’s that are sure to send out some powerful much needed messages.

You are Gorgeous fire Compliment Charm Necklace

The Barefoot Executive by CArrie Wilkerson (Book Review)

The Ultimate Guide for Being Your Own Boss & Achieving Financial Freedom

Book Jacket-

Carrie Wilkerson offers the opportunity to live life on your terms. Want to start your workday with e-mail and coffee on the back patio? Want the flexibility of joining your fourth grader on an all-day field trip? Are you ready to take that vacation you’ve been planning for years? Then you  have a choice to make, and The Barefoot Executive will help jump-start your transition. You’ll learn:

  • Your “why”. The most important question. Why do  you want to work for yourself?
  • What type of business best suits your experience and talents.
  • How to stay focused on your goal and avoid distractions.
  • Where to find the support that will accelerate your success.
  • How to link you business to the right market.

Whether it’s a service, a product, or your insight or expertise, you already have the raw materials necessary to transform your life. Carrie will walk you through the process of building the business you need to achieve the life you want. Her guidance is practical. No philosophical silliness, no theoretical abstractions- just concrete action steps alongside insights from fellow entrepreneurs, interactive exercises, and links to Carrie’s online video coaching segments. It’s the next best thing to working one-on-one with her. The Barefoot Executive will have you energized by the  possibilities and embracing the extraordinary life that is well within your reach.

My Thoughts

To know how I feel about this book and why I love it- is to know the struggles I have gone through trying to own my own business.

My son, Aidan, was VERY premature. He was only 1 lb and 13 ounces at birth. He stayed at the NICU in Louisville, KY for 3 1/2 months. So this gave me some time to think about the life I wanted.

I knew Aidan was going to be very different from regular babies. I knew he would have a lower immune system, be sick more frequently, and have some issues. I am like Carrie, as I didn’t want to leave him with strangers.

I didn’t want someone I didn’t know watching my baby get older as I was working a 9-5 job, hating being away from him. I also found a college to go to online. I didn’t want to leave him for anything, if I could avoid it.

I couldn’t put him in daycare  because he wasn’t supposed to be around tons of kids because of the way they pass germs, so I kept pushing myself. I now have added a daughter to the mix, so more reason to be at home.

At this point in my life, I am actually doing okay from home. I am making more progress than I ever have. I have student loans that need to be paid and credit cards that need to be paid off. Although I haven’t even touched paying the interest, I want to set goals to get all of this paid.

Now- on for the book.

The reason I wrote the paragraphs above is because she asks you to take a look at WHY you want to be home. She doesn’t want you to think you are going to be a millionaire at a snap of a finger. She doesn’t want you to get false hope thinking your going to be rich.

What she is doing with this book is giving you the option to free up your days to do WHAT YOU WANT- not WHAT your BOSS makes you do. It’s stressful not being able to get off when you would like, having a flexible schedule, and spending time with your family like you want.

So, this book is born. She has DONE THIS, so she knows what she is doing. She isn’t some fake who is telling you DO THIS and DO THAT without an explanation of how, why, and what. She tells you what you need to know to get where you think you want to be.

This book isn’t some boring, drab book that will have you drooling after the first page. She makes the words as light-hearted and funny as she is. She isn’t blah-blah-blahing you do death. This is important information that you NEED to succeed. So, your going to want to buy IT, get out the sticky notes and highlighters and get to making your way into the world YOUR WAY.

You simply cannot spend your life in fear of losing your job, your health, your life or your wife. I decided that I had to create my own financial reality and job security. Was I afraid of failing? Yes, but I could continue being scared and broke, or I could be afraid and well paid. I chose the latter. At some point, you have to be afraid of not trying than you are of failing.” –Carrie Wilkerson

I love the random quotes in this book that help accelerate your success. I seriously am going to write them done and make posters to stick all over my office walls. There isn’t success if you don’t believe in yourself, and that’s exactly what she says. How successful you are depends on how much you want it, and how much motivation you have to make it work.

She isn’t just telling her story, she is also helping tell the story of other people who needed and wanted to be at home making a paycheck. This isn’t some get rich quick scheme, these are real people who have made it. Who are trying to help you make it the same way they did.

No matter what you want to do, what you have done, or what your great at- this book could really help you set goals that are going to help you. Instead of focusing on making a million dollars, why not focus on making smaller more frequent amounts? That what she is teaching. The more smaller amounts you bring in, the more money you are making.

So now, I am looking at my business in a new light. This isn’t some get rich quick scheme. This is encouragement and the will power to make what you want to do with your life possible. Teaching you how to start out (at whatever level you’ve already made it to) and progress from there.

Naked Binder Review & Giveaway

clip_image001

My Review:

Learning is something that I love to do. There is no limit to what I want to learn. Science, History, Blog Design, Writing help.. You name it- I have a binder with the name on it. I have SO many binders that I actually broke one of my bookshelf last week. It just collapsed from all the weight.

When you have a learning fetish, you have to keep all that information separate. What’s the point of printing something off and trying to read it and make notes if you have random stuff in each binder? You WILL lose where it is and exactly what binder it’s in. I have had these issues before.

So I am always on the look out for binders, paper, tabs, and folders. I try to be smart and not just buy the cheapest ones out there. Because basically they are made of nothing but chemicals and plastic. I have to keep my home office organized as well as my homeschool plans.

I have to make sure that I label them all- and buy page separators, and most of the time folders to go in the binder- to hold my notes.  Most binders that are made of plastic end up tearing up though. Their fronts tear off after a couple of years, they get beat up and bend.

I ended up going to walmart last month for new binders. The small binders (1’) are $3-4 dollars, are made of plastic, and do NOT last very long. I would rather pay a little extra for something that will last, then buy a binder that is going to be a waste of money in the end.

The Naked Binders are the exact opposite. I got to review the classic binder, the notebook binder, and the page tabs.

The Classic binder is very well made. It has a design that is appealing, yet strength to hold your work for as long as you need it to without falling to pieces. This very sturdy binder is made of binder board covered in grained FSC certified black paper. The binder is smooth, sleek, and designed to be there for you when you need it. It has a line debossing on the top of the binder (front) so that you could easily label it without getting the label sideways.

The hinge in this binder is guaranteed.. they tested it on 250,000 flexes, and it was still going strong as ever. I hate when a binder ends up with no cover, and you have to waste money. The Naked Binders are 100% recyclable, so if they do tear up down the road, they won’t end up in a landfill somewhere.

I wanted to start designing blogs this year, and needed a binder that’s going to withstand all the pressure it will receive. I will have to flip back and forth from each section quite a bit when referring to a certain subject. I don’t want to have it collapse on me and have to buy another within a year.

I love that these binders are extremely customizable. You can write on them with markers, put labels on them, or design them any way you want.

Notebook Binder-

I had been looking for something small like this for awhile. There just really aren’t that many good quality ones out there. This one is awesome. I needed something to use for my business contacts. Other binders are too large, and address books usually do not have places to list social networking sites. A blogger needs to have this on hand, and now I can. It is durable enough not to be beaten up by the other 147 things in my purse. The binder and the tabs are $11. Pretty good value for something that isn’t going to just disassemble inside a backpack or purse.

Naked Tabs-

Acid free tabs to help you divide the contents inside your binder. It comes with 5 tabs and a cover sheet. They come in 3 different styles:Eames, Naked, and Conservation Printable and are completely recyclable.

Tabs that are plastic are hard to label. The tabs that have inserts- those little pieces of paper are hard for me to write on. They always have been. I wasn’t even using most of the labels that came with them. I would buy the little post it notes and write on them.

Now I don’t have to- these tabs are labeled with roman numerals. They are easy to label, and easy to grip and flip. I don’t have time for snagged or stuck together tabs. I need to be able to see where I want to be and easily navigate my way there. Again, they’ve hit the spot with these. I love this company because they satisfy the customer, but are sensitive to the environment.

Emani Minerals Review

clip_image001
My Review:
0353 Drama QueenI got to review the 0353 Drama Queen lipstick from Emani Minerals. =) Emani has nothing but organic, natural make-up. Chemical free makeup that provides long lasting wear, with high quality product.
002003006
I don’t usually go for bright lipsticks, but I have been feeling bold lately. I usually use  peach/light pink/light brown lipsticks. A GIRL has to have something dramatic in her lip wear, doesn’t she?  I felt I did. I had only chose lip glosses or light colors (as mentioned before). With this lipstick, I feel GLAMorous. Extremely classy and like I could take on the world. No wonder so many women wear bright lipsticks.
011
This lipstick is AMAZING, and nothing less. It feels so moisturizing, like a chap stick but has a sheen of a colored lip gloss. The color is wonderful, bright, and eye-catching. The formula they use is awesome, it stays on for a long time. Doesn’t wear off, and it doesn’t run.
This year my New Years Resolutions were many, but on top of my list was to go greener. I wanted to switch to mineral makeup, green cleaning products, recycle more…etc.
The reason I wanted to switch to mineral makeup is because our bodies are our temples. Using natural makeup prevents chemicals from entering your body. Skin DOES not block chemicals from entering your body, it actually absorbs it. So natural body products, hair products, and makeup products were my main thing this year.
I was glad to run upon Emani. Their products are 100% natural vegan. Makeup products with chemicals in them have been shown to give women an increased risk of cancer, infertility, and hormonal dysfunction. Their products are also paraben free  Why risk it when you don’t have to?
Thinking about what goes in your body is on your mind.. now what goes ON it should be also.
This company is also animal friendly. They do not test their products on animals, their products are made from plants, and their brushes do NOT contain animal hair.

About:
Emani Minerals products are vegan & gluten friendly, cruelty free, not tested on animals, and the paper goods are biodegradable and 100% recycled (25% post & 75% pre-consumer).
Emani chooses to use certified organic ingredients from plant or flower extracts in our formulations, we combined these extracts with key ingredients such as mica, titanium dioxide and iron oxides. Mica is a transparent mineral which is mined from the earth. It can be opalescent and sparkling or completely matte. It is often treated with iron oxides to yield brilliant color effects. Iron Oxides are natural oxides of iron that is combined with oxygen, varying in color from red to brown, black to orange or yellow, depending on the degree of water added. Titanium Dioxide is an inert earth mineral used as a thickening, whitening, lubricating, and sunscreen ingredient in cosmetics. It protects skin from UVA and UVB radiation and is considered to have no risk of skin irritation.
