I have used fabric softener and dryer sheets forever. I thought that it made my clothes smell much better and helped to keep that smell in. Who doesn’t like to pick up a shirt, put it on, and have it SMELL amazing? Well I couldn’t pass up on it, until I found out about all the nasty chemicals that they contain!

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and industry-generated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) from the 1990s, the following is a list of chemicals in fabric softener products, most in untested combinations. Liquid fabric softeners additionally may contain formaldehyde.

• Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer.
• Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant.
• Ethanol: On the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders.
• Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list.
• Limonene: Suspected Gastrointestinal or Liver Toxicant, Immunotoxicant, Kidney Toxicant, Neurotoxicant, Respiratory Toxicant, and Skin or Sense Organ Toxicant.
• Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled.
• A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage.
• Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic.
• Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders.
• Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders.

 

I really had absolutely no clue about all these chemicals until recently. When I found out about all those chemicals, I immediately started looking into an eco-friendly alternative to dryer sheets.

Woolyrounds immediately popped up in my search, so I asked to review and they said OF COURSE..

About the creator of Woolyrounds:

I learned about wool dryer balls in 2009.  When we made the decision to cloth diaper our son, I realized that we would have to give up using dryer sheets.  At first I really was sorry to see them go.  They eliminated static, and added very fragrant smells to our laundry. 

But after doing some research, and learning about the harmful chemicals that are in dryer sheets and the negative impact they can have on clothes and on your dryer, I was happy to make a change and consider a more natural, healthy alternative.  That’s when I discovered wool dryer balls.  I purchased some online, they worked great and I started to see all the benefits that they offered, but the quality was lacking and only lasted a few months before they started to unravel.  So, I gave it a shot and tried to make some of my own.

I have a creative background and have always loved to make things so it was and is a lot of fun going through the trial and error stage to come up with a solid finished product.  During this time, I had taken New Ventures course through Women Work and Community and have known for awhile that I wanted to start and run my own business.  In October 2010, I launched WOOLY ROUNDS.  I love that this business is really about providing a sustainable alternative that will help protect your family’s health and that helps to reduce our impact on the environment.

For use: For first use, twist pen several times until product is dispensed. Apply to dry, chapped skin, lips and clean cuticles as needed.

This is shaped like a pen. You take off the top lid and rotate the bottom (like a chapstick tube) until the ointment comes out of the top. You can then use it on your lips or cuticles (or both).

This is such an amazing little tool. It intensely rehydrates dry, cracked, and chapped lips and skin. This isn’t just for lips, it is also a cuticle care tool as well. As you can tell the top of the tool is a cuticle pusher.

This replenishes dehydrated skin to give you immediate smooth, supple lips and cuticles. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) gently exfoliate to smooth and revitalize while Lanolin protects skin or lips from the damaging effects of environmental exposure.

Vitamin E conditions and helps relieve chapped, cracked skin or lips. This is a gentle exfoliator, sealing in moisture to give you long-lasting moisture. It also protects from future damage. It has a very creamy texture, like a chapstick and lipstick mixed. It also smells great, like it has lavender oil infused inside it, so it’s relaxing as well as healing.

This has a very nice consistency. It’s not so thin that it has to be reapplied a lot, but not so thick that I feel like I have gunk on my lips. My lips are soothed, smoothed, and the dryness is completely gone.

As a cuticle care treatment, it works very quickly as well. My cuticles were cracked, dried out, and red. It has all the ingredients to soothe and treat, which is what I needed. It was to the point where my cuticles were actually hurting.

After using this about 2-3 times, my cuticles were definitely more hydrated and the redness was gone. It is in such a convenient tube, that it can fit inside my makeup bag inside my purse. I can pull this out whenever I need it and use it wherever I am.

Borghese Bronzer Brush & Lipcolour Review

Perla Duale High Impact Lipcolour

Borghese launched a lipstick line  in November 2010 called Perla Duale High Impact Lipcolour. There are six shades to choose from, and they are all very beautiful colors.  They range in colors, from pinkish, light brown, wine colors, to a darker more caramel brown.

These lipsticks were inspired by the fashion forward runways of Milan. The inner lipstick color is surrounded by a shimmery balm with a pearl colored finish.

 

The shades are Perla Nudo, Perla Café, Perla Fiamma, Perla Pesca, Perla Vino and Perla Rosa. Each tube is $24.50.

I received the Perla Café, which is a shimmery blushed rose color. I really like it, because it gives options. You can apply this straight from the tube to get the shimmery lighter color for work or a school meeting. For a night out on the town, you can use a lip brush to get a darker color with less shimmer.

The lipstick is very velvety feeling which feels amazing, and has a very long-lasting formula that holds on forever. It feels so luxurious on my lips, and has such a luminous shimmery opaque color. The lipstick contains Vitamins A, C, and E. The vitamins moisturize and nourish lips while also offering anti-aging benefits.

This lipstick is unlike any other because it also soothes the lips while on. In addition to having Vitamins A, C, and E; it also contains Chamomile and Aloe to soften and calm the lips.

I loved the uniqueness of the color.. Every lipstick I’ve ever tried have been mattes, shimmers, and satins. Never once have I tried a pearl finish lipstick, until now. This is new and fresh for me. The lipstick is classy, sophisticated, and rich.

If you have a lip brush, you could also use the pearl “balm” outside by itself, which also looks very unique. It gives off a frosty lipgloss look. I really like it!

*Twist the neck of the brush to the right and shake the brush gently to allow the powder to come through

*Sweep over face and body, or anywhere you want an instant glow. Avoiding eye area.

My Thoughts

I have had a shortage on tan skin this year. The only thing tan about me is my arms and my face, the rest of me is pale as pale can get. I used to go to the tanning bed, but without a baby sitter and $50 extra a month- I stopped going.

I started looking for other alternatives for dark, beautiful skin that doesn’t carry a risk of skin cancer. I didn’t use to think about things like that when I WAS tanning, but honestly- A girl that went to my high school died from over-tanning. She burnt her insides by tanning too much.

After that- I became leery of tanning. I started using bronzers and fake bake tanning lotions. I really liked this bronzer brush from Borghese. They know just how to make a lady feel beautiful. ;}

In the morning, I spend about thirty minutes trying to warm up my complexion with make-up. I put on mineral liquid foundation, mineral powder foundation, blush (bronzer), and usually fake-baked bronzing cream on my body.

This bronzing Brush is amazing because you can twist the neck of the brush to turn on the glittered bronzer. This releases the bronzer so you can put it on without too much spilling out on you all at once. After you turn the neck on, turn it sideways and shake it a little, then turn it back off. THEN you can put it wherever you want it!

This doesn’t make me look unnatural and my skin doesn’t look like it’s covered in fake bake bronzer. You can apply this on your face, cheeks, shoulders, arms, and legs.. Wherever you want a sun-kissed glow to be.

This bronzer is fragrance free, talc-free, and free of mineral oil. As soon as you apply this, you can tell that it has these tiny flecks of shimmer that make even the lightest skin seem bronzed. So, whether you have light or dark skin. this will NOT look unnatural on you.

This isn’t the same as a fake-bake, so if that’s what you think this is, it isn’t. This is for someone who just wants to add a little shimmery bronze to their day or night.

I love wearing this. I feel so fresh, natural, and beautiful. What woman DOESN’T want a shimmery bronzed look without all the heaviness? I’ve had too many issues over the years of real body fake-bakers gone bad.. Knees and elbow, ankles, and face globs.. This doesn’t create any of that.

Just gently shake the brush onto your skin as much or as little as you need.

As a crafter, I am very interested in finding small glass jars or jars of any size to keep crafting materials in. Sunburst Bottles have bottles and jars of many shapes and sizes.

I am working towards building up my crafting inventory. I am always looking for something to store these materials in as well. I think drawers full of crafting materials isn’t great presentation as a crafter.

I like decorating with my crafting materials being the sole decoration in the room. There are so many shapes, colors, and textures that they are just naturally beautiful to look at.

What’s better to store materials in, than glass or plastic jars? Nothing! And they have so many different colors in the glass jars!

I love candles. Having a night at home with Adam, watching Television by candlelight or just sitting and talking.. It IS so relaxing. Especially since we don’t get very much time together because we have 2 kids under 5.

Having real candles in our house is slim, because I am so afraid that the kids will pull the candle on themselves, or turn it over inside the house. Having kids around candles, even if they ARE up high STILL scares me to death.

Battery Operated Candles has so many different types of candles, that it is hard to choose just one. They have some very unique, beautiful, and glowing candles.

Flameless battery operated candles use an LED light source that mimics the look of traditional flame-burning candles. They look so real, yet aren’t. So you don’t have to worry about child safety. They also have scented battery operated candles. This is amazing. I’ve never known battery operated candles to put off a scent. This is great if you think you would miss the smell of an actual candle. This particular one smells like the ocean.. Can you say relaxing?

They also have remote controlled candles. These particular candle look like they have wax melting and running down the sides. These candles can be put anywhere, even places you wouldn’t normally put candles. In a glass case, on a ledge high up, and all the candles can be turned on by the remote. AND all three turn on and off with the remote.

They also have colored hurricane candles. They look like they have been molded in a hurricane candle holder, but you don’t have to worry about them burning down to nothing. They will always look the same beautifully molded candles. These candles are also scented! Both types of these candles smell like vanilla.

I really like the look of these distressed candles. They look amazing and also come scented. The Distressed pumpkin colored candle smells like spiced pumpkin. The burgundy distressed colored candle smells like pomegranate.

They also have candles for seasonal decorating, your outside light needs, and everything in between.

Pants shopping for kids can be extremely challenging. If you're kids are like mine- either their waistband fits or their pants length fit, and not BOTH! Aidan is more like this than Adisyn is. He is thin and long-legged. If I get pants that fit his waist, his pants are too long on the length part.

This is where My Hikes makes life as a mom much easier and less stressful. Kids grow constantly and are always growing out of their clothes. Leg lengths in children clothing are just like adult clothing, they vary depending on which brand of jeans/pants they are wearing.

As a mom, I like to buy my kids clothes a little large so that they get more wear for the money. Kids clothes are expensive and I don't want them to just be worn a couple of times before they are outgrown and go to the local churches or the goodwill.

The mom that invented My Hikes (Dani), did so that MOMS can buy their children's clothing a little larger without having to sew in the hems. Now all we have to do is assemble the My Hikes clip onto the bottom of the pants. Now I don't have to worry about the kids tripping over their pant legs or them getting worn out if the temporary hem comes undone.

The My Hikes is easy to apply and doesn't come off during playtime. You have to take them off for them to come off, they aren't just going to fall off.

To apply:

• Cuff pant leg up to 2 inches in height with vertical pant seam aligned (Single or double fold cuffs as needed.)

• Side fastener on cuff. Center it over the vertical pant seams.

• View ring-like part inside pant leg. Make sure vertical seam passes between the two little tabs.

• Use fingers to support ring-like part inside pant leg. Use thumb to press design through ring-like part and feel a snap.

These My Hikes come in a variety of designs, so that they can be used on kids of all ages, AND they have designs for both girls and boys. These My Hikes can be worn by infants, toddlers, kids, teens, and EVEN by adults if you wish. You can mix and match them; trade them with friends, siblings, cousins..

If your like me, you have longer jeans that you wear with boots. You may want to wear these with a flat shoe like a clog, dress shoe, or tennis shoe. If your jeans are long, you know how they can get eaten up when they go under your shoe and get eaten by the concrete. This has happened to me many times. The jeans get worn out and they look older than they are.

I hate this. I always ALWAYS fold my jeans hem in or out now. When I was younger- I never did. Now that I'm older and have kids of my own, I can't afford to go out and buy new pants all the time. So, being practical and trying to cut corners and save money- this will go a long way.

Dads can get the use out of these as well. Longer jeans get soaked when they do their outside activities such as golfing or playing baseball on a dewy field. Now they can cuff their pants and not have to worry about hiking them up to keep them from getting dirty, muddy, and letting them fit so much better.

I chose to get the construction truck My Hikes for Aidan. He has the longer legs and will be starting Kindergarten this year. He has tons of pants that are longer than his legs, and I think that these will make help keep his school clothes last longer so that we have more money for field trips, lunch money, and snack money. Saving money on clothes, the more you have to spend on other things.

You can clean My Hikes with soap and water. Or you can soak them in water and wash them with a soft bristle brush. You do need to remove the My Hikes before machine washing or drying.

They aren’t hard to get on OR off. They are adorable, and can be reversed to the clear side for moms, older kids, or dads! Keep everyone in the family from ruining their pants.

Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel Review

This is my second time working with Murad, and they NEVER disappoint. Their products are top quality and ALWAYS do what they say.  The Intensive-C Radiance Peel ($49.50) is an amazing product. It doesn’t really harden and PEEL off of your skin. It’s more like a Radiance mask, that stays moisturized until you wash it off.

• A convenient one-step, at-home peel which is part of Murad’s Environmental Shield® Line, created to help restore and renew sun and environmentally damaged skin, while protecting it from future damage.

To use: Massage evenly over clean face, neck and chest. You may experience a light tingly sensation. Leave on for up to 10 minutes. Rinse with warm wash cloth and pat dry. Use 1 to 2 times weekly and follow with a Murad step 3 moisturizer.

My Thoughts*

I decided to use this right before bedtime. So I used this with my regular cleanser, rinsed with warm water, and PATTED my face dry with a towel. You don’t want to SCRUB your face or use an exfoliator BEFORE using this. This can cause irritation and can cause your face to redden. Just use your natural cleanser first, and then apply this (wait for 10 minutes), rinse, and pat dry again.

This is the perfect “mask” if you ask me. As soon as you put it on, you can definitely tell that it has started working. It has a tingling sensation that lets you know that it is getting deep down into your skin to make it more beautiful.

This peel works after just one use (for me). I could definitely tell that hyperpigmentation (spotting) of my skin had definitely been reduced. This also restored clarity to my skin, so that you I didn’t experience any breakouts or  show any blackheads.

Skin immediately looked more youthful and extremely brighter. The ingredients in it smooth and perfect the skin to reveal my skin’s true beauty. My skin was glowing more radiantly after one use. Vitamin C and Indian fig protect skin from UV damage and free radicals, while helping the skin stay clear.

Glycolic Acid exfoliates the skin to accelerate the turnover of darkened, damaged cells. The damaged cells will then be gone and your skin’s dullness will be brightened and your overall skin texture will be better.

Myrtle extract helps to boost the elasticity in your skin as well as collagen to give your skin that youthful firmness and glow that you’ve been missing out on. As you get older your collagen and elasticity drop about 1% a year- starting at age 35. If you could save and store what collagen you have NOW, you might not have to fight such harsh wrinkles as you age.

I love that it does so many things in just 10 minutes and that I didn’t have to wait 2 months for some actual changes! It smells great and isn’t sticky or hard to get off. It doesn’t burn (just tingles) and leaves my skin SO soft and supple.

I am very impressed with this peel, and I will definitely add this to my skincare regimen. It has helped with breakouts, blackheads, dead and damaged cells, darkened skin, collagen and elasticity… What more could a woman ask for in a peel?
