50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James (Book Review)

50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young enerprenuer Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wt, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too- but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success- his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family- Grey is a man termented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a darinh physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires.
Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, and stay with you forever.

My Thoughts +& Review-
I had some doubts about all the "FUSS" over these books because I'm not really a Romance reading kind of girl- but DAMNNNN was I wrong. This isn't some boring "Love me, please?" Kind of book! I was instantly taken with this book.. It's super-hot! It's not your average Jane loves John and tries to get him to notice her...boring kind of stuff.
Ana and Christian meet by complete accident because Kate (Ana's Roommate) was sick and asked Ana to interview him for the College newspaper. She is completely befuddled and nervous, trips and practically falls into his office. I like that Ana has spunk, wits, and keeps the conversation flowing and interesting..

Christian is a smoldering, deeply wounded soul and yet you can see throughout the book that Ana is making him melt a little. She is definitely changing his darkish, deep haunted thoughts that make him feel so isolated and alone. This is a match made in heaven because they each have what the others looking for. He gives her strength and courage and she gives him love and understanding. It's a lovely, sexy book and I can't wait to read the rest of the Trilogy. This book was damn amazing!

Love Researcher Explains Neuroscience Behind Valentine's Day

The legend states that Valentine was arrested and put to death by Emperor Claudius II. Valentine was defying orders and secretly helping soldiers to marry. But why would Claudius II not want his soldiers to marry?

Here's where the neuroscience comes in. It turns out that when a man marries, his testosterone drops. So, Claudius' decree against marriage makes biological sense. If you want an aggressive army that will fight your battles, it's better to have single, highly testosterone-fortified men.

Think that's crazy? It turns out that lower testosterone is not the only crazy thing that happens to us when we fall in love.

In a dramatic presentation, Love Biologist Dawn Maslar cuts up a brain to show what love does to us. When we fall in love, this is what can happen to our brain:

• We can lose cognitive ability
• We can lose the ability to accurately judge our partner – that's why they say 'love is blind'
• We can lose the ability to feel concern if we detect a problem
• We can experience an increase in self-transcendence – being in love makes us feel less selfish and more connected to the world

In addition:
• Our serotonin (hormone of happiness) can fall to the level of someone with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
• His testosterone drops but hers goes up – making her sexually charged
• This effect is temporary – lasting between 1 and 3 years
Don't worry, while the craziness is temporary, the love CAN last a lifetime. In fact, Valentine's Day helps since the following can also kick-in:
• Red hearts, cards and clothes boost his testosterone which can increase the romance
• Giving chocolate on Valentine's Day can boost dopamine – an important neurotransmitter of long-term love
• Doing new and novel things with a partner can also boost dopamine
• Spending quality time together increases oxytocin - the bonding hormone

Dawn Maslar, MS, is an award-winning author, expert guest speaker, adjunct biology professor, and researcher in the science of love. She is a two-time TEDx speaker and her talk on 'How Your Brain Falls in Love' went viral last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyq2Wo4eUDg

DIY Cold Remedies😥😷

Do-It-Yourself Home Cold Remedies
Brought to you by: Cold-EEZE Cold Remedy
  1. Stuffy nose? Use steam for relief.
You don’t need a fancy humidifier to ease congestion. Slowly breathing in steam from a pot of boiling water can work wonders! Just make sure to be very careful — you don’t want to burn your nose!
  2. Make it spicy.
Incorporate lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, rosemary, cloves, pepper and ginger into your sick-day diet. Spices are natural cures to help boost your immune system and fight off viruses and diseases. Some other ingredients to include? Garlic, honey and coconut oil. Check out some more natural cold symptom relievers by visiting us on Pinterest.
  3. Try chicken noodle soup.
A nice hot bowl of chicken noodle soup (Make sure to include vegetables!) might be just what you need to fight off that virus. It’s the ultimate cure-all and medically backed to help ease cold symptoms. Check out some of our Cold-EEZE Cold Remedy-approved tasty recipes by clicking here!
  4. Make your own nasal spray.
By simply mixing 3 teaspoons of iodide-free salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda and then adding 1 teaspoon of the mixture to 8 ounces of warm boiled water, you can create your own nasal spray solution! It takes a matter of minutes. And then all you have to do is fill a bulb syringe and gently squirt the mixture into each of your nostrils (while holding the other one closed) and letting them drain. This will help clear nasal congestion as well as remove virus particles and bacteria!
  5. And of course, drink plenty of fluids.
It’s so important to stay hydrated, especially when you’re sick. By drinking plenty of fluids regularly, you can help break up congestion and ease a sore throat. Some great options include water, herbal teas, juices and ginger ale! Be sure to check out some of our favorite healthy hydration recipes!

15 Doctor Recommended “To Do’s” to Fight the Flu

As we head into flu season there are many things we can do to “flu proof” ourselves. Regardless of whether you choose to get a flu vaccine or not, there are things we can do to heighten our chances of not getting sick this winter. Dr. Christopher Calapai, a New York based Osteopathic Physician board certified in family medicine, and anti-aging medicine provided us with a comprehensive list of 15 to do’s to fight the flu.

1.     Keep your surroundings clean, wipe surfaces at work, keep your cell phone clean. According to the CDC viruses can survive on a surface for up to 8 hours

2.     Wash your hands frequently and use a hand sanitizer. Remember the workplace and public spaces are a hotbed for germs. This is where the hand washing comes into play.

3.     Increase intake of vitamin D, C, E and A. Include foods such as red bell peppers (add to salads), sweet potatoes, chicken soup, salmon and garlic. Research shows that keeping vitamin D levels at 80 ng/ml or so decreases the risk of catching the flu and swine flu.

4.     Bring your own lunch to work where you can control food prep and ensure surfaces are clean.

5.     Get a full night's sleep. When you feel run down you're more susceptible to illness.

6.     Work from home when feeling sick. These days it's easier for people to work from home at the slightest signs of cold or flu.

7.     Eat kimchi! It’s delicious and a great probiotic which boost immunity.

8.     Add mushrooms to your meal. Packed with selenium they’re an immunity booster.

9.     Sip green or black tea rich in polyphenols and flavonoids which ward off illness as well as L-theanine,
an immunity boosting amino acid. Green and black tea are also packed with polyphenols and flavonoids.

10.  Munch on sweet potato fries which are high in vitamin which helps us fight off bacteria and viruses.

11.  Don’t touch your face especially the eyes. The average person touches their face around 15 times
per hour! It’s something we do unconsciously so if we can be more aware of face touching the more we can stop.

12.  Soup it up! Chicken veggie noodle or ginger garlic soup fights flu and sinus infection.

13.  Exercise regularly! Doing 30 minutes of moderate cardio per day is optimal to enhance the performance of infection fighting white blood cells.

14.  Go hands free on the smartphone. When we put our phones down and then pick them up or touch them this is where viruses can spread. Using earbuds and cleaning the phone with a devise friendly cleaner will help.

15.  Lose the booze. You really want to cut back on alcohol consumption during flu season. It dehydrates us and lowers our immunity so our ability to fight off virus is impaired.

*Post Christmas Books-- The Best time to get Christmas books is in January!

Mary Higgins Clark + Carol Higgins Clark- The Christmas Thief

Mary Higgins Clark, America's Queen of Suspense, and her daughter, bestselling mystery writer Carol Higgins Clark, have again joined forces to create a suspenseful and humorous holiday tale.
Alvirah Meehan, the lottery winner turned amateur sleuth, teams up with private investigator Regan Reilly to solve another Christmas mystery. In Deck the Halls, they rescued Regan's kidnapped father. This time they get in the middle of a case involving a beautiful eighty-foot blue spruce that has been chosen to spend the holidays as Rockefeller Center's famous Christmas tree. The folks who picked the tree don't have a clue that attached to one of its branches is a flask chock-full of priceless diamonds that Packy Noonan, a scam artist just released from prison, had hidden there over twelve years ago.
An excited Packy breaks his parole and heads to Stowe, Vermont, to reclaim his loot. Once there, he is horrified to discover that his special tree will be heading to New York City the next morning. With a bumbling crew consisting of Jo-Jo, Benny, and an unsuccessful poet, Milo, he knows he has to act fast.
What Packy does not know is that Alvirah and Regan are on a weekend trip to Stowe with Alvirah's husband, Willy; Regan's fiancé, Jack; Regan's parents, Luke and Nora; and Alvirah's friend Opal, a lottery winner who lost all her winnings in Packy's scam. On Monday morning when they're supposed to head home, they learn that the tree is missing, Packy Noonan may be in the vicinity, and Opal has disappeared.
From two of America's beloved storytellers, The Christmas Thief is filled with suspense, comic characters, and holiday cheer, and is sure to delight its readers.

The Ice Merchant by Paul Boor

The Ice Merchant - Paul Boor M.D.

It's the year 1889, and a shrewd Yankee ice merchant, Nicolas Van Horne, has been carving out a profitable side-business. Deep in his ship's icy hold, dozens of human cadavers lie between the huge blocks of ice. On this delivery, his first to Galveston's new Medical School, Nicolas makes the ghastly discovery that he's been trafficking in murdered boys. Only with the help of Rene Keiller, Galveston's lovely lady scientist, will Nicolas eventually solve the puzzle his ice holds . . . but first he must overcome his personal demon of morphine addiction, and become inextricably entangled in Rene's experiments on the most dreaded killer of the time, Yellow Fever.

Paul Boor, M.D., is a scientist and professor at Galveston's medical school, the oldest west of the Mississippi. His first novel, BLOOD NOTES, was a modern biomedical thriller. In THE ICE MERCHANT, Dr. Boor explores the history of the body trade, while plumbing the depths of the human frailties of those devoted to scientific discovery.

Birdhouses, Boxes, and Feeders for the Backyard Hobbyist is an invaluable source of information for both the woodworker and the bird-lover.

Making your own bird boxes and feeders is a rewarding and environmentally sound way to enhance any garden by attracting birds. The food we supply in winter can mean the difference between life and death for small birds, and in spring and summer bird boxes help many species to raise their families.

The world is flooded with information, but starving for wisdom. Many feel a sense of overload, anxiety, and a general state of restlessness. Eastern cultures refer to the monkey mind and respond with yoga and meditation. Western civilization has identified a series of disorders and related prescription drugs. All of this can help, but what is the complete and balanced solution? How do we get grounded, despite all the confusion? How do we build a solid foundation that assures solid, authentic growth? If you look carefully at every authentic achievement, you will see a clear pattern of Me We Do BeMe We Do Be reveals that all behaviors can be organized within these four cornerstones. Me is quality thinking that builds wisdom, We habits form quality relationships, Do actions build productivity, and Be designs the future. Me We Do Beconnects the dots and creates a fresh perspective for moving forward. The Me We Do Be principles are the result of research that has spanned 25 years at the intersection of sociology and economics.
If you ask a young person today about weed, what comes to mind isn't rolling a joint or taking a bong hit, getting the munchies and chilling out. In fact, cannabis today is practically an entirely different product than what most people think it is, so before you start saying, 'What's the big deal about legalizing weed?' there's a lot you should know.
