Review: Down East Basics- Fall Fashion Must Have!

Leaves are changing colors and dropping to the ground, weather is getting cooler, and the darkness is coming earlier.. yes fall is here. The crispness of the leaves, the beautiful colors, and fall fashion- who could disagree with Fall?

My Fall Wardrobe consists of hoodies, long sleeves, boots, boots, did I mention boots? But I definitely wanted to add in some very chic and sophisticated clothing this year due to me being a NEW business owner! YAY! I want to look professional and stylish at the same time.

This is where Downeast Basics come in! I had tons of fun looking through their new fall arrivals. They give fall fashion an entirely different meaning! Trendy little jackets, beautiful long sleeves shirts, sweaters, cardi sweaters, and some amazing skirts.

S0- it was hard for me to choose something- ANYTHING because I had a pick of like 3. I ended up choosing the Fashion Relic Jacket that retails for $44.99, and I KNOW that I made the right choice.

As soon as this came in the mail, I was SUPER stoked to try it on. The mail came right before I was headed to pick my son up from school, so I brought it with me. AS I sit in the pickup line waiting for traffic to move, I slipped this beauty on and basked in it's trendiness.

Now- when it's cool but not cold, I don't have to look like a bundled up Eskimo with the fuller heavy coat on. I can now look smartly dressed for the office and look amazing at the same time.

I am super sure that I am addicted to this. I mean- why ELSE would I wear this with black reeboks and jeans? Just for the heck of it- THAT's why. Because I love the feel of the fabric on my skin. How the arm length fits closely to my elbows. There's no constant pulling down or pushing up. It just fits OH so perfectly.

3/4 sleeve French terry jacket with ruffled collar and wide, tie waistband. I love that it's called a "French" terry jacket. OKAY- make me feel that much more fabulous, go ahead! It came in two different colors; frappe and sparrow. I couldn't resist ALMOST getting the frappe just because I love frappes and I love that they would name a smartly cut jacket after a perfectly made drink.

In the end, I had to end up going with the Sparrow though. WHY? Because I have some really kick butt boots that it would go perfectly well. Not to mention my kids would really try and destroy me if I had the "frappe" color on. Have you ever tried to wear light colors around kids? It's like standing in a rainstorm praying not to get wet.

The jacket has a button front closure which I love. It can be washed in the machine in cold water  on the gentle cycle, tumbled dry, and ironed if necessary. This just whispers my name.. I mean- the fabric is amazingly soft and doesn't need to be dry-cleaned. It had me at hello ;)

Review: Dr. Max Powers- Intense Scar Therapy Scar Serum

My son was born extremely premature. He ended up surprising AND scaring me  by coming almost 4 months early at 24 weeks. I had JUST found out what he was 2 weeks prior to him coming, so thankfully I already had picked out a name, but he was 1 lb. 13 oz and 12 1/2 inches long.

This meant that I had to have an emergency c-section. I wasn’t worried about it at the time, but I had a HUGE scar. The scar was 2 1/2 inches thick and was the length of my entire stomach.

It was painful for a very long time, even after I had to get the staples pulled back out. Over the next year and a half, it started healing up and not hurting as much but there was still a huge gnarly looking pink gash that was forever long across the bottom of my stomach.

When I had my daughter, she HAD to be born VIA C-section due to the way they had to cut me open with my son. They said I would never be able to have a real birth because my insides could rupture. When I had her, they did manage to tuck some of the scar tissue inside and sew it up.

The scar ended up only being about 1 1/2 inches wide, instead of a whopping 2 1/2. So this saved me an inch of ugly scar tissue, but it was still there no matter what scar medicines I put on it.

When I heard of the Dr. Max Powers Intense Scar Therapy Scar Serum, I definitely knew that I had to give it a try. Even if it could minimize the scar I would be a happy camper.

As for the scar’s formation and deepness- it hasn’t  disappeared, but then again I didn’t expect it to only in 3 weeks. It has slightly faded the deepness of the scar and this is only the third week.

Moving With Kids: Top 3 Tips

Packing up the entirety of your family home during a home-move can be a stressful process at the best of times. But throw small children into the mix, and the word ‘stressful’ becomes a fairly tame word to describe events.

Review & Giveaway: Baby Magic Creamy Baby Oil

Fall is definitely here. The leaves are changing colors and falling away from the trees. The weather is getting colder, which means the need for a heater at night (and sometimes during the day). AND it means dry skin for me. Every time the weather starts getting colder, my skin rebels against the cool weather and the heater and I can’t stand it.

If you happen to look in my purse, you’ll probably find 2 bottles of lotion at any given time. It’s a must. I can’t go without lotion. If I have dry hands, I get cold chills, always have. I know it’s weird, but I can’t stand having dry hands or skin.

The lotions that I usually carry around are perfumed though. AND most of them aren’t as moisturizing as I would like them to be. I’d put them on, just to have to reapply it within 30 minutes. SO- the only point of those lotions is to SMELL good.

When I got the chance to review Baby Magic Creamy Baby Oil, I was super psyched. They have the most amazing bath washes, so I knew I wanted to try this lotion against the evil markings of cold weather against my skin.

This comes in a 16.5 oz bottle, which is the right size. I could use it and also use it on the kids after their baths. This lotion is simply AMAZING. It smelled amazing (like a sweet tiny newborn baby).

It’s hypoallergenic, which means that it can be used on anybody’s skin without it agitating or irritating their skin. It has Vitamins E, A, D & Aloe in it, so it not only naturally soothes the skin (but the vitamins in it HEAL the skin).

As I have Keratosis Pilaris I ALWAYS look for lotions, oils, and body washes with Vitamin A in them. Vitamin A is a natural skin healer and will reduce the bumps with continued use. If you don’t know what it is *it’s nicknamed chicken skin for a reason* My thighs get red, itchy bumps on them if left untreated.

I went to the Doctor over the *chicken skin* and she wrote me a prescription for Retinol A cream. This is just a high dosage of Vitamin A, but it was extremely expensive. It was more than $80 for a tube that resembled a Neosporin tube.

After the first tube, I was NOT about to pay that again. So I started looking for other stuff I could use that is inexpensive yet still gets the job done. Really the *chicken skin* is from having dry skin and pants *jeans* rub against the already dry skin and make the hair follicles pop out creating the bumps.

AS long as I can keep my legs moisturized and use something that contains Vitamin A, they disappear and won’t come back unless I stop using the lotions, oils, or whatever.

This HAS really helped to diminish the bumps. It has been 3 weeks now and they are almost completely gone. The itchiness is gone, and my legs feel much better. It is said that 50% of American’s have this and don’t know what it is or how to treat it.

THIS is how to treat it. This is by far the most inexpensive lotion that I’ve found that actually benefits my skin without leaving it oily or with a residue that transfers to my clothing. It’s best to put this on right after the shower/bath to trap in the moisture AND to avoid using steaming hot water when possible. Your water can be warm but if your skin turns red- the hot water is too much and will dry out your skin even further.

All of this for only $100 a month. That is AMAZING- considering what I’m paying just for home phone and internet right now which is close to the same without the TV service. Comcast gives amazing deals, and has something for every price range. That’s what makes it so great- because you can customize it so that you get the channels and phone package that YOU want. You aren’t paying for extras that you aren’t watching anyway!

As soon as fall hits, Holiday shopping begins. People start browsing- buying stuff here and there, what they can afford. They bring it home, wrap it up, and hide it from the person who they got it for.

Review & Giveaway: Smoobee Magic No Cry Brush

Day 63 of Made.By.Jess’s Countdown to Christmas

Having a daughter is one of the best feelings in the world. Since the very beginning of her life she’s been dressed up in cute outfits with pretty bows. She was born with a head full of dark hair, but by four months- she ended up being completely bald. All her hair ended up falling out, so I had to wait until it grew back to be able to put any more clips in her hair.

When her hair grew back in, it became lighter as she got older. Now she’s a blonde headed blue eyed little diva. Her hair is SO fine though. It was really long- to about the middle of her back and she got ahold of Aidan’s school scissors and decided to cut her bangs. <OH NO>

So now clips are a must! I used to use a regular brush or a fine tooth comb- depending on how tangled her hair was. BUT when using either the regular brush or the comb, all I heard was “MOMMY, that HURTS!”

So, I had to find something that would make it easier for me to brush her hair without hurting her head too much. I didn’t want it to scare her or anything. She would try and DO everything she could to get away from the brush/comb. Fight, Wiggle, Squirm, and scream.

She started bedazzling her brush to make it her own! She had tons of fun.. She’s only 3—so she just randomly stuck them everywhere. It was adorable. Now she will go and get her brush in the morning before I take Aidan to school and ask me to brush her hair. Hallelujah- miracles really do happen. From a girl that used to RUN from a brush.

She loves brushing her own hair now too. Although she only brushes the sides- at least she’s trying!

 

Smoobee’s Story:

The idea of Smoobee began when Elizabeth T., a full time executive mom, had a heck of a time brushing her 4 yr old daughter’s hair and she asked her friends for help. It turns out that her friends were all having the same problem. One friend in particular had a 10 yr old girl who would not brush her hair for days. Elizabeth said to herself “there is no way I am going to endure this for 6 more years. There has to be a solution.” So she tried all different types of brushes and found some to be better than others. She then took the best qualitiesof each brush a nd combined them to make Smoobee. After a year of designing, she received 5 prototypes thatshe sent them out to my friends. They all loved it! Smoobee was launched in February 2012. Smoobee was an instant hit! “I was getting emails from everyone saying how amazing Smoobee was and how grateful they were that Smoobee has ended the daily drama of brushing their daughter’s hair. I love hearing all of the wonderful responses. My favorite is when someone stops me and gives me a big hug just to thank me for making Smoobee.Keep them coming! I love it!”
