Beauty Review: Umberto Beverly Hills Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

I am in love with this Umberto Beverly HIlls line of Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. I take pride in my hair. My hair is long and layered, and I want something that is going to keep it healthy, and help with making it shiny, soft, fizz free, etc.
I loved this combo the very FIRST time I used it! I’ve gotten tons of compliments on how great my hair looks, which is always awesome!

This helps with damaged hair (from dying, over drying, or heat styling) by adding moisture to your hair that has been lost. I love the silky consistency of both the shampoo AND conditioner and love how amazing they smell.
The shampoo lathers up VERY nicely and I don’t need more than a palm size to really get my entire hair clean! The Conditioner is very rich and luxurious! They smell just like a tropical flower to me.. maybe Tiger Lilies?

The smell lasts all day, even after I tan and sweat a little. It has definitely made my hair feel stronger and more vibrant. I can even let my hair air dry and it doesn’t frizz up. Before I was having to blow dry it and then straighten it because of the frizz. This combo totally keeps the frizz at bay!

I also love that it not only nourishes my hair, but my scalp as well. I’d noticed since I started tanning that my head was flaking more than usual. This was due to it being “burnt” in the tanning bed I guess.. But this has helped the itchy scalp problem 100%!

My Review
Ready, set, take your SHOT! Summer is here, which means that people are going to be getting together more than they do in the winter. The hot weather, sunshine, and water—AND can you say SHOTS? why yes! Even if you have some of your girl (or guy) friends over for an amazing time!
This book has amazing detail and actually taught me some stuff that I didn’t even know.. That even though there are almost a THOUSAND mini classics- they all revolve around six or seven cocktails and just have different ingredients mixed in to make the “thousand” cocktails.
I love that there are interesting “know” facts at the bottom of every shot that tells you the history, or what something is made of, and what the alternative could be..
Most of the shots do not require ingredients that you’d have to search high and low for. This is what I look for when buying mixed drinks or shot recipes. I don’t want to have to search and buy something online just to have a little fun at home with some friends.
The ingredients also aren’t very expensive. You’re not going to spend an arm and a leg or your savings trying to make these. I want to have an inexpensive night in—I don’t want to pay bar prices for drinks I make at home, so It’s nice to have a book where you can choose the price (as long as it’s the same ingredients as written in the recipe)!
The book is thicker and definitely more interesting than some shot books that I’ve seen. He really knows what he’s talking about, and explains to YOU (and myself, of course) the steps to making something absolutely perfect!
I love each picture that is aside each recipe. Gives me a notion as to what they would look like after they’re made. Some have more than a couple ingredients, but most have only a few which makes mixing and buying easier.
There is even a complete chapter on “Farmer’s Market” which is of course drinks you can mix from fresh fruit, veggies, and herbs found at your local farmers’ market!
There’s also chapters about “Holidays” and “after dinner/dessert drinks”. So whether you’re having a Thanksgiving or Christmas party at your home, or just a get together—you’ll have your guests very surprised and wondering how you ever thought to be so clever at mixing up those drinks!
The Chapter “Last Resort Shots” are ingredients that you’re going to find laying around in your cabinet. The author understands that we aren’t bartenders and don’t have all those specialty ingredients laying around.. BUT you wanna have fun and get a little tipsy? Raid those cabinets!
The names of these drinks are so unique and fun that it’s hard not to WANT to try them! I am definitely going to try the:

Tips for Easy Party Prep and Cleanup

· Although using disposable utensils, glasses and plates for serving food and drinks can cut down on the time spent scrubbing dishes, it adds to the amount of garbage guests throw away. Instead of purchasing multiple bulky trash bins, line collapsible laundry hampers (like the ones college kids use in their dorms) with garbage bags and place them around the party. These will work just as well as regular bins, but they’ll be easier to store until the next big event.

· Guests can track outside dirt, food crumbs and other particles into the house, so it’s important to sweep and vacuum high-traffic areas where most of the socializing was done. An easy way to maximize the effects of vacuuming afterward is to use Febreze Carpet Deodorizing Powders. Simply sprinkle the powder on carpets before vacuuming, wait for a few minutes and then vacuum as usual. The powder cleans up to three times better than vacuuming alone, eliminates odors, and leaves behind a light, fresh scent.

· While candles can add to the ambience of an event, it’s tough to clean out candleholders once the wax has melted down. To keep the wax from sticking, spray the inside of candleholders with cooking spray before setting the candle inside. The wax will easily slip out when it’s time to clean up.

· Flowers also add an instant touch of décor as table centerpieces, but grime can build up in the hard-to-reach areas of vases, making it difficult to keep them sparkling. After the party, dispose of the leftover water. Fill the vase with clean warm water and add two antacid tablets. Let the mixture sit for a moment, swirl the water and rinse out the vase. This will lift bouquet residue with less hassle.

· After placing tablecloths, cut white parchment or butcher paper to size and place on top of each table, then set accordingly. The paper will catch any food, and the waxy underside will help prevent any minor spills from leaking through to the tablecloth, meaning there’s less chance of ruining table linens with food and drink stains.

My Review

The book begins as many others with the chapter Mixology Basics, where learn or re-;earn the basics of mixing cocktails. She explains what to plant in your garden or look for at the farmer’s market next time you go to ensure that your cocktails are fresher than fresh!

The “intro” chapters show in great detail how to mix the drinks the right way, the tools you will need to do so, and the herbs that you need to have on hand. She also shows you how to properly store ingredients that aren’t in season, so you can make that drink even if it isn’t summer!

I truly appreciate her “tools of the trade” where she shows what is needed before you try to mix up all this amazing deliciousness. Although I’m familiar with mixing them up, I’ve never used fresh veggies and herbs in drinks before!

You shouldn’t just ADD this to your collection of cookbooks/ home mixology because the pictures make you drool a little or that it has 150 recipes for drinks, syrups, jams, jellies, and purees but because of how eco-friendly your winding down will now be!!

She thoroughly breaks down all the “know-how” of making the jams, jellies, purees..etc so that even if you’ve never made any before, you’ll be in the mix very quickly.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s in your wine? She explains red, sparkling, white, and fortified. Don’t understand the different cocktail terms such as cobbler, swizzle, or smash (there IS more), she explains. This is definitely more than just a recipe book. This is a cocktail “reference” guide as well!

There are tons of recipes, starting out with the classics like the sidecar, Manhattan, and Pisco Sour. There are a lot of drinks that have a “fresh” exciting twist on them as well. I really want to give all the Sangria’s a try! She’s got the Warm Winter Sangria, Sustainable Summer Sangria, Tropical Sangria, Allegria Sangria, and Seasonal Sparking Sangria!

I love how many “syrup” recipes are in here. She starts out with the Basic Simple Syrup and moves on to the more sophisticated ones that have added herbs and fresh fruits to them!

These recipes are definitely more creative than the other cocktail books out there. I love all the different ingredients she throws in the mix, but she also tells you where they can be located if they are extravagant.

What’s even funnier is that she adds a “meat” section, making drinks with meat such as bacon. I wouldn’t have thought it would be appealing to drink a drink with bacon in it, but the Bacon Cherry Creek Cocktail DOES!

My Review

I started on Blogger back in 2009. I soon realized that many of my blogger friends were suggesting that I switch to Wordpress. I tried but it was just SO different from any of the HTML/CSS add on widgets and such that I learned for Blogger.

I was stuck. I didn’t know what to do, which way to go, or how to get started! The wordpress online manual that “suggests” how to get started was just a bunch of mumbo jumbo that didn’t help, it was like reading an encyclopedia from beginning to end. I felt more numb and lost AFTER reading it then before I began.

The Wordpress: The Missing Manual helps break down all the hard to figure out “add-ons’ and “inserts” so that a beginner could understand HOW to work Wordpress properly without having to pull their hair out!

This book breaks down how to get started, how to make a post with Wordpress, THEN customizing your add ons and plug ins as well as working with your existing tools.

The best part of the book for me was the adding audio/visual elements. It was nice to see it explained in a way that I could see how the big picture from beginning to end works, so I wasn’t so in the dark about it.

It’s so much better than just trying to figure out what’s going on just from the online documents that give you. They were more frustrating for me than helpful. It was jibberish, especially to someone used to Blogger where you can tweak/edit your own HTML and change just about anything you want from your HTML/Edit Layout page!

The only thing that I can complain about is this book jumps around a bit. I would have rather seen how ONE site was built from the beginning to the end. This shows a number of different websites that have been built.. but for me to FULLY comprehend something I have to see from the very first to the end..

This is easily the best way to make the switch without all the hassle and problems of jumping right in without any help! I would definitely recommend this book to someone looking for help!

My Review

I seriously DID not see that this tanning lotion was for a man before I asked for a sample of it. I opened the package at the tanning lotion, looked down and seen “MADE exclusively for MEN”..

BUT, I was going to a doctor appointment RIGHT after and only brought the sample, and didn’t have time to go all the way back home.. so I said “WHAT the heck"?” and went ahead and  used it anyway! LOL.

I opened it and noticed how pretty the coloring of the tanning lotion was. How amazing the consistency of the lotion was, and how well it spread. I had a little left of a sample pack after lotioning up my ENTIRE body. I like a lotion that doesn’t need A TON to be used! That way when you decide to buy an entire bottle, you know it will last you a longer amount of time!

I could immediately smell that this was for a man. It smelled JUST like a man’s cologne. It wasn’t strong or overpowering though, it smelled incredible actually. LOL. I didn’t mind smelling sexy.. There was absolutely no burnt after tan smell—which some lotions DO have! Smelled just as incredible coming out as I did going in!

The lotion is SUPERRRRRR moisturizing! I like lotions that I can use without an after tan moisturizer. I mean—you will NEED to use one further along the day to keep your skin moisturized even if your lotion is moisturizing. The healthier and more moisturized your skin is the better it will tan and the longer your tan will last. That’s the reason I stay away from lotions that seem to dry out my skin!

I noticed like 45 minutes to an hour later that I was already darker. It is a GREAT, quick bronze! It has a great silicone based bronzer in it, I could tell! It is a top notch lotion, if YOU have a man looking for an exclusive lotion JUST for MEN, then this is definitely what he should get (OR you should get for him, hint hint).

My Review

To drink, you can take one tablespoon daily, alone or mixed with six ounces of water, fruit juice or herbal tea. I’ve been mixing a tablespoon of this with juice on a daily basis, and can’t taste anything but the juice.

My skin, nails & hair have never looked & felt more amazing. I dye my hair on a monthly basis. I try to keep it dark, but after dying it I can tell it becomes a bit damaged and tends to get frizzy and unmanageable. Since I’ve been taking this (even with dying my hair twice since I’ve been using it).. NO damage!

My nails before this would peel and chip off from doing so many loads of dishes on a daily basis. Since I’ve been adding this supplement into my diet, I’ve noticed that my nails aren’t peeling or chipping at all! YAY!

I have a ton of back pain and even though I take my medicine, I was still experiencing pain. Since I’ve been drinking ONE juice glass with this added into it—the pain isn’t so strong!

My Review

The color I get from this lotion is absolutely DIVINE. There isn’t any lotion that can boost a quick color like Boost PINK for Women! This lotion brings ON the compliments.

Whether you’re a beginner tanning looking for a quick boost or an advanced tanner looking for something to push you over that plateau your stuck at, this is definitely a lotion to add in the mix!

When I first opened the bottle, I noticed a perfume smell, which was quite nice. The lotion is thick, light brown and goes on well. It has a lot of bronzers in it, so make sure you wash your hands after you’ve applied this to your body so your fingers and palms aren’t brown after.

I love that this lotion doesn’t give off an “orange” color like some intense bronzers too. I’ve never used an indoor tanning lotion that also blended sunless tanners in the mix with tanning salon tanners, it brings out MAJOR color.

Make sure you don’t shower for at least four hours after you tan when you’re using a lotion with so many bronzers, because your skin needs time to let them develop before you wash them off.

It isn’t streaky either, just make sure you’re rubbing in circular motions all over your body. AND make sure to use less on your ankles and knees. Bronzers (especially sunless) will tan your knees and ankles quicker than the rest of your body, so make sure you go lightly on those parts!

It leaves my skin so soft and silky! AND even though it has so many bronzers, they never rub off on my clothes, I can get out of the tanning bed and put my clothes on without worrying my clothes are going to be stained!

This is a top A++ lotion. I really enjoy using it!

Beauty Review: Umberto U Color Italian Demi Color; Cherry Black

No measuring, no mixes, no mess. Salon color has never been easier! The one-step sachet packet system of color, developer, and equalizer is ready-to-use.
After Many years of dying my hair at home, I could see the damage it was doing to my hair. I have naturally dark brown hair but it turns almost blonde in the summer and I don’t like it, so I dye it dark to cover the blonde.
My hair was being damaged by the ammonia in the hair dyes I was using. My hair was becoming frizzy, dried out, and just really straw-like. I hated it. I ended up buying a salon “leave in” hair replenishing conditioner. It worked, but my hair was soon fading back to the “light” color I dread.

I also hated that the ammonia smell was IN my hair for more than a week with the other hair colorants I was using at home. No matter how many times I washed it or what I washed it with- the smell was still there! CHEMICALS..ughh!

I was excited to try the new Umberto U Color Italian Demi Color – Black Cherry because it doesn’t have any ammonia in it. I loved that it comes with gloves and a brush. No other home kits include the brush.
The brush makes it easier to get the roots and the ends without making splashes and getting the dye everywhere. It was really helpful! I loved the deep color of the hair dye. It was a thick, rich, luxurious mixture. The gloves are of actual quality too, which is a big step up from the usual flimsy gloves that come with at home kits.
It says that you can cut off the top of all three packets at the same time. You squeeze all at the same time, but I went ahead and poured it into an old bowl and mixed it with the brush. I’m just NOT that coordinated that I can squeeze and apply with only one hand.
I did what it said and left it on for 25 minutes. I didn’t notice a chemical smell, which was AWESOME! It smelled like shampoo.. just clean and refreshing!

I really love the deep dark black it gave me. It’s a refreshing difference to the lightness my hair WAS experiencing. I really loved that when I was washing it out, all I felt was silk. My hair really did feel and smell amazing!
There wasn’t any “damage” that usually follows at home dye kits for me. Usually when I blow-dry my hair after dying it, it gets really frizzy and almost unmanageable! I love this hair color kit! It’s amazing!
