Book Review: Ponderables- Mathematics An Illustrated History of Numbers by Tom Jackson; Shelton Harbor Press

image

An Illustrated History of Numbers, you’ll get a peek into the Imponderables, too, the mysteries yet to be solved that will one day lead great thinkers forward to an even greater understanding of the universe. Includes a removable fold-out concertina neatly housed in the back of the book. This fold-out provides a 12-page Timeline History of Mathematics that embeds the story in historical context and shows Who Did What When at a glance. The reverse side features some of the greatest mathematical enigmas and interesting facts about the world of numbers.

My Review

Math wasn’t my best subject in school. It wasn’t because I didn’t find it interesting, or found it too hard. It was because of the switch up, it was so confusing to me. One day we’d be learning about THIS and I’d get the hang of it, then the next they would throw something else my way.

I learn by beginning to end. I can’t just jump around and figure stuff out. I have to have the entire history of the subject (it’s just how my mind works, I guess.)

WP_002858

This book has included 100 breakthroughs in Mathematics. The breakthroughs are really just 100 short stories of how math came along. It was very interesting and I couldn’t stop reading it. AND this is from someone who didn’t really like math in school OR college.

When you make it FUN, it is fun. This book is amazing. When I fully understand WHY stuff is the way it is, it makes it easier for me. This book is loaded with information—this would be awesome for a math class!

WP_002859

I love that it features various illustrations, pictures, charts and graphics that way you get a better glimpse of what’s going on, and is easier to comprehend (plus it just makes the book stand out!)

The book is more than 100 pages and following the intro it is broken down into 4 parts based on the timeline of events.

1.Prehistory to the middle ages

2. Renaissance and age of enlightenment

3.new numbers, new theories, and new mathematicians.

4. Great mathematicians

WP_002863

This isn’t a book that you can read from cover to cover in one sitting. This is a book that you work your way through little by little. It is such an enjoyment to me to ACTUALLY see how math came along and WHY such things are the way they are. I never understood putting letters into math—but now I do.

Would you like to learn more about math or know someone who does? This book is right up your alley!

My Review

I love this book. It is definitely a book that every business owner should have on their bookshelf. It is a step-by-step approach for impacting and improving your business life.

Pinterest IS where people are these days. This is like the window-shopping of the internet where real customers are looking for your products, and this book shows you how to successfully put them there.

Whether you are just beginning to use Pinterest, or you would like some fresh new ways to approach marketing in today’s social media craze- this book has it all.

I love the way that the book is written. Everything is so clear and precise, broken down into steps, and shows examples right on the page. She even knows the demographics of users and helps you understand where your target audience may lie so you are always promoting your business while gaining paying customers.

There are seventeen chapters of nothing but examples, how-to’s, studies, tips, interviews, and sidebars to get the ball rolling in your court. She shows you how to set up your pins and boards so they are pleasing to the eye, and captures attention.

She even shows WHICH rows of your boards are more likely to get the first glance, so you know to place your most interesting products or services in those spots.

She also explains on how to follow other Pinterest users back, how to set up videos, using hashtags, commenting, and liking pins and boards! It’s all in the know-how with Pinterest. This book is a TREASURE just waiting for you to buy!

She really knows what she’s doing, she has a lot of experience in marketing and this isn’t an exception. She knows the knitty gritty of getting your brand out there for those eager Pinners to see.

With all the social media sites out there today; i.e. facebook, twitter, linkedin, pinterest, youtube.. it can be quite scary for a business owner—especially one just starting out.

This book takes the fear out of starting a Pinterest account. You don’t have to worry about HOW to do this, where should I put that, WHY is Pinterest a good source of marketing for me? All of those questions are answered.

This isn’t just another “social media website”. Out of all social media, this is probably the #1 traffic driver. She does an amazing job showing you how to:

Cross promote your pins to other social media sites

Get a pinterest tab for your facebook page

Connecting pinterest to your facebook timeline

Liking and pinning via facebook

posting pins to twitter

embedding pins on your blog

Sharing a pin via email

This isn’t just a book that you browse. This is a book that you sit down with, pull out the paper and pen and get to taking notes. Every single page is full of information to setting you on the right track to selling more merchandise!

No social media will work for you if you don’t know how to use it. Get to learning Pinterest the easy way!

Beauty Review: HSI Professional 1” Digital Ceramic Infrared Flat Iron WorldWide Edition

image

One hair style that will NEVER go out of style is straight. I am more than likely to wear my hair straight almost 6/7 days out of the week. Sometimes I might flip out the ends, curl it, or wear it “beach wave sexy”. But it’s just easier for me to wear it straight!

WP_002844

This flat iron has shown me AGAIN and AGAIN how irreplaceable it is to me in my hair styling needs. I usually blow dry my hair and then straighten it. With the HSI Flat Iron I don’t have to blow dry it if I don't want to. I can wash my hair and let it air dry the night before and just straighten it in the morning before heading out the door.

WP_002259

I love that it is digital. It is so easy to just plug-in and push the button to turn it on. Then you can press the 450* button and it will start heating up and reach 450* within just a minute. It impressed me with just how quickly it heats up to the desired temperature, so I can get to work on my hair!

WP_002843

You can adjust the temperature of course. If you don’t want it to get to the full 450* it has a + and – button as well, so you can decrease it to whatever temp is right for you.

I love the fact that although it reaches a very high temperature the outside of the hair straightener doesn’t get hot. I love that I don’t have to wear a heat protective glove just to straighten my hair. Usually when a flat iron gets this hot the plastic will get hot as well, making it hard to use with bare hands.

It comes with a heat glove just in case, but I never have had to use it. I use it at the highest and still it doesn’t get so hot on the outside that I need it. They send it just for a precaution.

I also like the fact that it has a safety feature built in. I don’t know how many times I’d plug in the straightener and then have to clean up a mess the kids made or do something and totally forget for about 10-15 minutes that it was plugged in and turned on.. when I came back- it would be flashing red and signaling that it shut itself off because it was on too long without being used! THAT is awesome!

WP_002651WP_002671

This is BY FAR the best flat iron I’ve ever owned. It takes my dull, frizzy hair and transforms it into a shiny, beautiful, manageable head of hair. My hair looks absolutely awful if I go to sleep with my hair wet, but sometimes I just don’t feel like blow-drying it.. with this flat iron I can hit the sack and not worry that my hair will look a mess in the morning!

WP_002839

I also love that it can work on any voltage. If you travel this is a good thing. Hotels, Motels, Cabins, and places outside the U.S. might have a lower or higher voltage tolerance. This flat iron will work everywhere you go! I love that it comes with it’s own travel pouch! Open-mouthed smile

The plates on the straightener line up AMAZING, I’ve had several flat irons that would grab and pull my hair instead of straightening it.. and OUCH! This didn’t though, it went through my hair very smoothly without it yanking.

I have really long hair, and I don’t have an issue getting from root to end. I love that it doesn’t damage my hair. It has ceramic ionic system with an infrared technology. This means that it doesn’t just heat up the top layer of the hair.. it goes to the center of the hair follicle to straighten it and eliminate frizz.

WP_002250

It also doesn’t leave hot spots in the hair, which is what causes damage over time. The infrared protects the hair from overheating. My hair looks so healthy, shiny, and smooth.

I also like that it not only has a 360* swivel cord but it is really long. SO no matter where a plug-in is located, you can still straighten/curl/flip your hair in front of a mirror.

WP_002849WP_002851WP_002852

Pictures are 1(Top left) Flipped in to frame face 2 (top right) flipped out and bottom.. a Curl made using the flat iron!

WP_002850

To flip it out you do as you see above. Run the flat iron all the way through your hair until you get to the ends and then flip up with the iron. To flip it in do the opposite.. roll it under instead of up.

WP_002853

and to curl the hair with a flat iron--

WP_002854

Like before.. Run the flat iron through your hair until you reach the ends, and then roll your hair up like you would with a curling iron and then slowly pull down.

WP_002852

and here is my curl! Open-mouthed smile

WP_002856

and I’ve even started straightening it even if I’m wearing it up! Nice, huh?

I give this flat iron a 10/10!

Happy Father’s Day

Father’s Day 2013

Here it is Father's Day 2013. 17 years since I've actually gotten to celebrate Father's Day with my daddy. Although he passed away when I was 7, I knew more love from him in 7 years then more people receive in their lives. He was a man of word, he always stood by his promises. He was loyal to the end. When he was your friend or family member, and you needed him FOR anything, you could bet your ass that he had your back.

daddy

He was stubborn and hard-headed! He taught me to stand up for myself, to never back down, to be loyal to those to care about me. He taught me to be myself, love others for WHO they are and stand up for others if need be. He taught me to speak up, speak out, and to be strong. This man was and has been my hero all my life.

I wish he were here to know my kids. I talk to them about him, although they still don't understand because they've never met him. Even with pictures, they don't understand why they've never seen him. I wish I had the words to explain the love in my heart for him to them. I wish they'd gotten to know my daddy.

I wish he'd been there through some of the things life threw at me. I don't know how many times tears would be rolling down my face and I'd just wish that he could wrap me in arms and let me know it was ok. He always had a way of cheering me up, for making me feel protected, and I love him so much for that!

At my graduation, I wish he were there to see me, support me, and give me reassurance from the bleachers. Even though he wasn't there.. I was carrying a yellow rose in his honor.. one that my Grandma gave to me to remember that he was there in spirit guiding me and being proud of me!

You might not be here in person, but you've always been in my life via spirit. I love you daddy! R.I.P Lester Blankenship April 9th, 1965- December 17, 1996

Have you told your dad Happy Father’s Day today?

Book Review: Work Women Want Work at Home or Go Part TIme by Jennifer Forest

image

Work when you want, care for your kids and still make money.

This book shares 12 mothers' journeys to creating money at home or in part-time jobs.

Explore how to make home-based income: Etsy, Elance, eBay, party plan, blogging, multilevel marketing, share trading, daycare, creative entrepreneurs and professional service businesses.

This practical book teaches:

  • 14 ways to make money at home
  • How to negotiate a part-time job
  • The 7 questions that help you find your authentic work
  • What it really takes to make money at home
  • An 8-step action plan to get you started

Create the life you want for you and your family today

After the birth of my daughter, I kept meeting other mothers who
wanted to work at home. They asked the same questions I had:
How can I make decent money and still be there for my children?
How can I work from home or go part-time? In Work Women Want, I set out to find them an answer with
my experiments, experiences, research and interviews.
This book shares 12 mothers' journeys to creating money at home or in part-time jobs.

Explore how to make home-based income: Etsy, Elance, eBay, party plan, blogging, multilevel marketing, share trading, daycare, creative entrepreneurs and professional service businesses.

This is not a book for every woman, not even every mother. If
you have ever asked how to make decent money but still care for your children,
I wrote this book for you.”

My Review

As a mom, I’ve struggled between wanting/needing to work yet wanting/needing to stay at home with my kids. I had Aidan very early, he ended up being 16 weeks premature. So even though I worked while he was in the NICU for those 3 1/2 months, as soon as he came home I quit my job to be with him.

I did start college, but from home. There was absolutely no way that I could continue working. Not only would Aidan be on my mind continuously if I DID work, but he was just too small to leave with a babysitter. He had a low immune system, so it wasn’t a good choice to return to work.

How would I make money? What was I going to do? I had a little grants coming in now and then but other than that I had absolutely no income. Only Adam was bringing in the money, and I felt my independence slipping away- but I wanted to be with Aidan at home. If only there were a way to do both…

The best thing about it is that at the very beginning of the book she lets you QUESTION yourself and your personality to determine if you are right for working at home and actually accomplishing your tasks.

She lists 4 personality type and learning tests, so that you can really to get to see your personality up close and personal. The benefits of this is that you can tell what your weaknesses and strengths are.

When you know how your personality works well with certain work, how  you best learn, and what your strengths and weaknesses are you are bound to pick the best work at home job for yourself. Not to mention getting more work done!

Combining a work at home career is definitely possible if that’s what you want. Something so that you can have a schedule that is movable so that you can be there 100% for your children.

This isn’t just a show-tell book. She actually interviews 11 women who are also mothers who DO and have succeeded working from home. They all have different life stories, different reasons for wanting to work from home- but they share their stories and that’s my favorite part of this book.

She lists all the way to make money from home. They include: eBay sales, share trading, party planning, blogging, and providing professional services. She even takes it deeper and tries some of them for herself to see what kind of skills they require.

I love that with each woman she goes into detailed questions of how they got where they are, what are the ups and downs of what they do, what’s the best and easiest avenue for getting there, and is what they do WORTH it? Is it worth the time they put in? Is the money good? What amount of time they have to put in to be actually making money.

This gives you the REAL down low on what you NEED to know. What kind of time do you have to put into your own work at home business? what are you interested in actually doing and can you take the road to get there without becoming overwhelmed?

Work Women Want is an amazing book for women that want to make decent money and still be there for their kids. I love that she tells at the very beginning “if you are looking for a get rich quick scheme, this isn’t it.” There are so many people out there looking for ways to make millions, but all those books and DVDs are scams.

This book is REAL and totally motivational to those parents who don’t want to find a real way to be at home most of the time. I’m not saying that all of these options in the book are going to let you stay at home 24/7. Some of the party planning/selling options require you to visit people in their homes or throw parties at your home and invite others.

BUT you don’t have to choose that option, if it isn’t what you’re looking for. I would definitely recommend this book!

My Review

WP_002787

This book is small in size but packed with a HARD punch. This is definitely amazing for any kind of get together or party. Summer is definitely here, which means more barbeques, the fourth of July, and backyard parties. BE ready to impress your friends and family with this book!

WP_002788

This book is downright AWESOME! Every kind of alcohol you could ever think up mixed with this and that to make some amazing shots that will have you licking your lips and then making another.

No more PURE whiskey or vodka shots that have your stomach turned upside down within mere seconds. Why not make it fun and tasty instead? This book is CRAMMED with amazing recipes no matter what you’re looking for.

WP_002783

All the shots are listed in alphabetical order, and are detailed in how to make them. The author really did HIS research on putting a giant variety of drinks to please everybody! He also does an amazing job mixing the old classic shots with the new modern shots that everybody wishes they knew how to make.

WP_002789

NOW you can make all these at home without paying bar prices! This is amazing to have in your kitchen, on your coffee table, or on your bar bookshelf. This is one SHOT reference book you don’t want to miss out on!

It’s all about letting loose, having fun, and making some great memories. There are plenty of books about shots but nothing can even begin to touch this with it’s vast collection (Over 1,400)!

Most of the drinks within this book I had never even heard of. They have some very exotic names and refreshing ingredients. The recipes are simple, easy to make, and do not require a lot of ingredients.

There are 2-3 shots per page, and contains nothing but shots. If you’re looking for a full sized drink, don’t look here. Although you could possibly mix up a larger concoction at a time just with the information given. 2 parts this, one part that, a dash of this.. etc.

I love that it tells whether to layer the drink or shake with ice and strain into the shot glass. Some shots are meant to LOOK cooler with the different ingredients layering each other to give off a colorful charismatic drink!

There aren’t any pictures of the drinks but they aren’t needed. The instructions are precise and easy to follow so there isn’t any way you could mess it up! Open-mouthed smile

This book would actually be a great gift to give for Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries, and even Mother/Father’s day. Why get them something classic like clothes or a gift card when you can give them a book filled with potential memory making ingredients?

The shots are really the eye catchers though. Just looking through the book was fun in itself. There were so many that I wanted to try, some that I never even THOUGHT about the ingredients mixed the way they were. It is quite impressive!

Here are some of the shot names that caught my eye!

Absolut Tootch, Adult Lit, Dominator, Damned if you do,

cherry cheesecake, chastity belt, Fuzzy Smurf, Funky

Chicken. End of the World, Little Black Devil, Plead the

Fifth, Power Shot, P.S. I Love you,  Southern Smile, and

Prozac.

The design of the book is cool and unique, so that just in itself is one way to get the party rolling. Invite some friends over and whip them up some of these and they’ll love you forever. They’ll be wanting you to be the “bartender” at all the parties—Just don’t forget your shot bible at home!

InstaCam_2013-06-13_02-35-53-AM

The back of the book is sorted by types of liquor. If you only like or have a certain type on hand you don’t have to search through the entire book. This is a time saver and VERY genius.

The Recipes:

Dead Man Walking:

2 Parts Vodka

2 Parts Crown Royal Bourbon

1 part Cola

Dash of Lemonade

Shake with ice and strain into shot glass

Bruised Heart

1 part Vodka

1 part raspberry liqueur

1 part peach schnapps

1 part cranberry juice cocktail

shake with ice and stain into shot glass

Have you tried any of the shots I’ve mentioned above that caught my eye? If not, which catches YOUR eye and would like to try?

Home Review: Febreze™ Hawaiian Aloha Deodorizing Powders™, Endorsed by BISSELL

WP_002759

Summer is here, and we all know what that means. More get togethers, more people coming in and out, and MORE kids. With so many people going to be coming in and out, I want my carpets to look and smell their best!

Febreze™ Deodorizing Powders™, endorsed by BISSELL will do the trick every time! It’s easy to keep your carpets smelling AMAZING with these carpet sprinkles because they are so easy to use. Just sprinkle a little bit on the carpets and let it sit for about 5 minutes and vacuum them up.

I love that there are two options on the top of the lid. It reminds me of a parmesan cheese shaker. You have a bunch of tiny little holes, or the big gaping hole- and you just turn the opening to whichever you choose and sprinkle away.

The smell is fabulous, everything you think of when you think of Hawaii. Flower blossoms, pineapples, and a nice summer breeze. The powder is amazing because it doesn’t leave a white residue on my carpet (which is black and white), it doesn’t clump up when vacuumed, and it has absolutely no problem being sucked up by the vacuum (or even getting the carpet clean with a broom).

These little sprinkles aren’t just made for carpets though. Did you know you can sprinkle them on your furniture (if you have cloth or upholstery), use them in your car carpets, and sprinkle them on curtains/draperies?

They eliminate even the toughest odors; whether it be garlic, smoke, or mold. BUT most of all I love them because they eliminate the everyday smells of having two kids who are always getting into something and might accidentally spill it.

I have a shampooer for my carpet, but sometimes the scent of whatever was spilled can linger behind. Now I can shampoo the carpets, wait until they dry, and sprinkle this and vacuum it  up and the odor is gone!

I love that I can clean the house and use the sprinkles on my carpet and leave. As soon as I walk into the house you can smell the freshness and cleanliness of the Hawaiian Aloha scent! Very pleasant!

7 Tips for a More Productive Move

1. Go Big or Go Home: When prioritizing your moving tasks, focus on the most important task, even if it’s the biggest and most time consuming.  Moving your attention to the quickest, and perhaps least important, task will only cost you in the end.

2. Divide and Conquer: Divide your tasks by categories such as packing, cleaning and paperwork. Focus on each area separately and completely.  Rather than pulling paperwork out multiple times, tackle your mailing address change forms, kid’s school forms, mortgage documents and more, at once.  Don’t let distractions such as kid’s artwork in the school folder move your attention elsewhere. Kid’s room packing can be next.

3. Don’t Shop: While it can be tempting to start shopping ahead of time, it can create more work in the end. You may not have room for all the little extras you’ve purchased, or ultimately decide to go down a different design route once you’re in your new space.

4. Turn Off Technology: Instead of letting emails, TV and more, distract you, turn off interruptions so you can keep your focus on the task at hand.

5. Plan Your Move: Rather than talking about what you and your family or housemates SHOULD do, talk about what you ARE doing. Never leave a conversation without understanding clearly what you and the other people involved will be handling.

6. Take a Break: Getting up and away from the packing and moving reenergizes you and slows down the end of day crash.  The time spent away from the boxes will be more than made up when all is said and done.

7. Be Positive: If you begin your day feeling excited about your upcoming move, you’ll be more productive, and well, a whole lot happier. Complaining makes you more overwhelmed and less efficient. So, laugh a lot to keep the mood light.  After all, you’re moving into a new home with new adventures ahead!

A Pool Has Become A Backyard BBQ Necessity

Everyone throws backyard BBQs – at least those who have some sort of outdoor area to do so. Especially in the hot summer months, when there is a bbq, there should be a pool. This allows guests somewhere to be other than around the hot grill. It also adds an element of fun to ensure more people show up.

Seating Areas

When you consider having a backyard bbq, you have to be conscientious about where everyone will sit. If you don’t have a pool in the backyard, you may have to supply a significant amount of seating for everyone because there isn’t a lot for people to do. You may need picnic benches, tables with umbrellas or at least lawn chairs.
If you have a pool, however, you can toss a few floats in the pool and ensure everyone isn’t just milling around the barbecue area. Those who wish to cool off periodically in the backyard can simply jump in the pool. People can also grab an inner tube or raft to lounge around while someone else is grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers.

The Entertainment Factor

It’s a great idea to have a backyard bbq, but you can’t expect everyone to come over just for food. You also have to provide some sort of entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with expecting people to make conversation amongst themselves – at least for a little while. Eventually, though, if there’s nothing to do besides eat, people will start to leave.

The pool ensures you have a draw to your party. People are likely going to head over because you have a pool, not because you’re having a bbq. This ensures you don’t have to focus significantly on the food that is being served. Keep it simple. You can put a volleyball net up across half the pool and have a water volleyball game or play a variety of other games in the pool.

Without the pool, you would have to figure out something else for people to do in your backyard – such as horse shoes. This doesn’t provide the same entertainment value, which means people may have the tendency to gravitate inside and plant themselves in front of the TV – and this is probably not where you want everyone hanging out.

Pool Designs

When you want to have a backyard bbq, a pool is becoming a necessity. Depending upon where you live and how often you have barbecues, you have the option of many different pool designs; such as inflatable pools available at BackyardOcean.com. If you own your own home, it may be advantageous to install a pool in-ground. If you do this, ensure you are choosing a size that will accommodate the average number of people you have over for a barbecue.

If you rent or you are not too keen on installing an in-ground pool in your backyard because of costs, you can put an above ground pool out back. While these aren’t as luxurious, these can still be very nice – and allow people to cool off. Depending upon your budget, you can find deep ones with a ladder up the side, a slide and much more. These are available in virtually every size you can imagine.

If the majority of the people you have coming over have little kids, you may even want to think about catering to the little ones. This includes with such things as a wading pool or even a slip and slide or sprinkler. This keeps the kids cool and out of the big pool that requires a lot more adult supervision. It may also be the best route if there are still some un-potty trained kids out there.

Even if you don’t have a pool, there are ways of obtaining one. If you’re in an apartment complex, there may even be a grill and a pool in the same area – making it a perfect way to have a BBQ, even if it isn’t in your backyard, per se.

It gets hot at a BBQ and you don’t want people complaining at the celebration. When the grill can be in the vicinity of a pool, it’s going to ensure a better turn out to the invitations as well as ensure that everyone is cool, no matter what time of the year it may be held.

Book Review: And I Thought I Was Crazy! Quirks, Idiosyncrasies & Meshugaas by Judy Reiser

image

Do you refuse to take the top newspaper on a stack (even if perfect)?
•Insist that the toilet paper hang "over"?
•Wait for the phone to ring at least twice before answering?
•Keep returning to the refrigerator hoping that something new to eat has materialized?

Outrageous, outlandish and downright ridiculous eccentricities exhibited (and confessed to) by otherwise normal people. From hilarious bathroom behavior to funny money and unconventional clothing habits to eating and sleeping peculiarities to germ-a-phobia and sportsmania and more.

You will laugh while gaining insight into yourself and others!
People do the darndest things!

My Review

Do you ever do something and then think “if someone KNEW about this, they would think I was weird?” Well, lighten up about it, we all have our little crazy quirks that make us who we are.

As a psychology major and all around people person, I am curious to the funny and quirky things people do. This is a collection of quirks that Judy has collected from different people from all ages and walks of life!

It is absolutely HILARIOUS to see that we aren’t the only weird ones! Smile No matter how old you are, you will definitely LOVE this book- it had me busting out laughing within the first page!

Here are some of the things that people do that they think might be weird to other people!

“When I mail letters, I have to open and
close the lid three times to make sure the
letter went down the slot. It hasn’t gotten
stuck yet but I still have to check.”
OWNER, REAL ESTATE COMPANY, MALE, 49

It always seemed to me that seeing one little toothbrush in a
holder for six looked very sad so I fill it all up with toothbrushes. I
have two bathrooms so I have ten or twelve toothbrushes—in all different
colors. I always use the same one, the rest of them just sit there.
PRESIDENT, AD AGENCY, MALE, 35

I divide my money into four separate envelopes in my pocketbook.
It makes me feel like I have a lot of money.
NURSE, FEMALE, 39

I always make out a check for whole dollars and pay the cents in
cash. If a bill is $35.10, then I’ll make out the check for $35.00 and
hand over the ten cents—it makes my checkbook so much easier
to balance.
DESIGNER OF CHINA AND CRYSTAL, FEMALE, 24

I pick up the groceries in the supermarket in the order that they’re
written on my list. If the bread and the cereal are next to each
other in the same aisle but not one after the other on my list, I will
bypass the cereal and come back for it later when I reach it on my
list. Grocery shopping is like therapy for me. It’s relaxing, I enjoy
it, and I take my time with it.
ACTRESS, 28

My brother peels everything from a tomato to a grape. He won’t
eat them otherwise.
SALES ENGINEER, MALE, 53
HIS BROTHER IS A BUSINESSMAN, 47

My husband doesn’t like the different items of food on his plate to
touch so he eats off an old steel army plate that has sections. He
feels that if one food touches the other, they’re both contaminated—
they’re supposed to be two separate foods and they no
longer are if they touch.
HOUSEWIFE, 32
HER HUSBAND IS A NATIONAL SALES MANAGER, CORPORATION, 30

Reading this book was very relaxing for me. I love learning about human behaviors, even the quirky ones! After just the first page I KNEW I’d be hooked on this book. It’s 176 pages of nothing but pure delight!

You’ll find yourself even saying “Oh My God, I totally do that” or know someone who does! My stepdad ALWAYS sorts his money by largest to smallest and they ALWAYS have to face the same way. I called him OCD but apparently there are other people who do this! LOL

My “THING” wasn’t in the book. I have TONS of books. They have to be sorted by whether they are fiction or non-fiction,then the same subjects have to be together, and then they have to be on the bookshelf from tallest to shortest. I don’t know why.. I stack my notebooks like this as well.

I also color-code all my clothes in both my closet and dresser. My closet starts out short sleeves (and I always put the tank tops at the very beginning of the color) white, then yellow, orange, pink, purple, red, blue, green, grey, brown, black. Then there’s the long sleeves color coded, and ends with my hoodies and sweatshirts and then jackets. They are all color coded and sorted by length!

What is something that you do that other people around you may not? Share below!

About the Author

About the Author Judy Reiser began collecting quirks after a conversation in which she divulged something crazy she does and a friend shared something he does. After having a good laugh about it, she soon discovered that everyone seems to have quirks. She has been observing, gathering, marveling at and laughing about quirks ever since. Her husband insists that if she had written this book of quirks as an autobiography, it would have been much longer! Judy interviewed over 2,500 people for her three books: "And I Thought I Was Crazy!", "Admit It, You’re Crazy!", and "In a Cell Phone Minute".

You can find a collection of all her books on the Judy Reiser Website
